I have an air-gapped win7 machine for "teh developments", but every now and then I want to import onto it and later export from it plain text sets. I will source incoming text from the internets using my regular win7 machine, like code samples, or stuff developed elsewhere, but I do not want to infect the air-gapped machine with malwares, virus and so on. Maybe the occasional image, but mostly just plain text.

My thoughts were usb stick and the usual array of anti-malwares and virus scanner, but is that safe enough? (I'm only using ms essentials and malwarebytes at present.) While I assume images and text files can't be malwares or viruses, but I'm sure the file system can be.

How do, /tech/, safely?

>airgapped for development

For what purpose?

 No.1014232>>1014266

there's airgapped, and then there's "airgapped"

to stay away from being pwnd by anyone that wants in.

Just a security measure. When I'm finished developing, then I release.

>>1014232

Quite. I guess I am breaking the seal, even if only a little, by even trying to take in from the outside world at all.

>>1014233

Well, kinda what I was thinking:

How about this:

1. install Mint on a usb stick

2. boot main pc using it, load files onto usb stick

3. boot airgap machine using it, load files onto airgap disk

4. ???

5. Profit!!!

USB is botnet. Use a sd card.

The general kind of SD cards run embedded ARM controllers just like USB sticks. Writeable optical media and MO disks are definitely safer. Direct connections using e.g. serial links which do not run any network stack by default (and should be fast enough for some text files and images) should also fine.

Thx, m8, definitely useful

How can one set one of these up on a modern pc -- most don't have serial ports anymore or am I misunderestimating?
