It's because contemporary movies/tv aren't even worth the time it takes to torrent anymore. You'll probably always be able to find classics on public trackers, but scene groups are dying not because of any law-enforcement action, but because of a lack of interest.

Just to interject something, most classic movies can be easily had via youtube and jdownloader for linux / mac or windows, and Archive.org.

I've seriously found some great content on archive.org and it's all free.
