What an SDR? .t Wikibedia

Software-defined radio (SDR) is a radio communication system where components that have been traditionally implemented in hardware (e.g. mixers, filters, amplifiers, modulators/demodulators, detectors, etc.) are instead implemented by means of software on a personal computer or embedded system. While the concept of SDR is not new, the rapidly evolving capabilities of digital electronics render practical many processes which were once only theoretically possible.

Interesting thread anon

Why is SDR relevant today? I get that it's a fun hobby project, but what practical purposes does it serve? The only thing I can really think of is meshnets once (((they))) finish purging the internet of wrongthink, but even then could you broadcast over a decent sized distance without the FCC being on your ass?

You don't broadcast over a decent distance. You create a meshnet over typical wifi range and this doesn't hurt anyone or interfere with anyone.

But that's predicated on everyone (or almost everyone) being a part of the meshnet. If you broadcast a stronger signal, it's possible to have a functional meshnet with far fewer participants. This sort of thing is necessary to get it off the ground, the network effect is much easier to overcome if less nodes are required for a meshnet to function. Also a stronger signal reduces latency (less hops between you and your destination), and allows a meshnet to operate in more remote areas. I understand that because of the FCC it's probably impossible to do this, but broadcasting over a larger frequency-range at a higher signal strength would make meshnets much more viable

Here's an idea, why don't you spam the catalog with four of these threads...oh wait! You already did!

There's a board for this, but you spam this thread like you've never heard of it. The board is slow, but high quality.

>guys have you guys heard of graphic cards? they are this cool thing that will change the world and allow computers to have cool graphics

fuck off. sending packets over radio is older then you fag. unless you are a boomer. people hooked up their teletypes to computers and sent text over radio to another teletype that would print it out. there are so many problems and limitations with how practical it is. although its pretty cool. its would be alot easier to have your ghetto network be hooked up with the more convential way, ethernet wires. people actually do this in other countries like Cuba where their internet is controlled so they set up their own network in cities via ethenet cables.

well since we're going public now...

anyone found anything in their local area to share?

was listening in on an interesting conversation between pajeet cap drivers the other day

I've used sdrtrunk to grab some interesting security business and country jail transports. AFSK repeater advertising where I got my license. Miscellaneous medical pagers. I'm mostly interested in the weather satellite stuff though.

SDR is cool but ultimately it's just another radio. I'm a ham and my favorite HF rig is my KX3, it's partly an SDR and partly an analog radio, a hybrid.

I just love SDR there are so many applications for existing technologies out of one device. I'm looking for a cool place to start. Any suggestions??

Cheap ass RTL-SDR with a downconverter for HF and a piece of wire is all it takes.

TempestSDR lets you see what's on people's screens, even through walls.
