i'm looking for how to get started in rtos developement, and how to implement an rtos into a car

im building a seaplane and you guys have NO IDEA how fucking expensive avionics is, just google 'garmin avionics' and you'll see.

It's gotten so bad people started building mounts for ipads in their plane dashboards

>picrel, $13,000 of avionics next to an equally functional $500 ipad

I swear, once someone gets the balls to FAA register an Ipad as IFR flight avionics, garmin is going out of business.

Is 'go-OS' taken? i want it to be about putting gps maps in cars, boats, or planes, and since a goose can fly, swim, and walk. It can stand for 'global orientation operating system', its kinda close. Idk i thought it was clever. I saw freertos, but from what i can tell, its not much more than a bootloader and a task scheduler.

The aviation community is fairly similar to the coding community, lots of people with highly specialized knowledge on a specific aircraft or powerplant few others have. Everyone with extremely strong and deeply held opinions about what systems or methods perform better than others. but none of them know anything at all about programming or even beyond facebook and microsoft office.

The aviation community is getting kiked hard, and are starting to realize it. the few planefags/motorheads i've talked to about how unix/linux work seem to get the 'applications as tools' philosophy pretty quickly, and most appreciate open source code once they understand what it actually is and what it means legally. They usually say something like 'when i open a motor i can see what happens when i turn it on. At least with open source, if i did enough reading, i could know how my computer actually works huh?'

Also, it allows for a pilot or technician to safety audit the code without needing a goddamn NDA-d license from the avionics manufacturer. Computers, and thus the code they run are a functioning component of an aircraft. In many cases, they are a flight-critical component. ie, if the computer fails, the plane crashes and everyone probably dies.

Why weren't they doing that before?

They were using these picrel clip-on style mounts instead, or strapping the ipad to the top of their leg (it is(or was) common to strap a paper pad w/ a flight plan and startup checklist to your leg, esp. for tiny planes or before aero maneuvers so it wont fall anywhere and can be seen in an instant)

The main issue is that the FAA certification process for IFR flying(night/foul weather flying) involves certifying that aircraft in its current configuration. While this means you have to re-certify the instrument in each airframe, allthough having been certified in one plane greatly speeds up the process.

An Ipad simply will not do as a component of a machine upon which your life depends.

how hard could it be to build freeRTOS out into a working GPS map display? the rest is far easier, just online apis for nabbing radio freqs, weather reports and airspace types/regulations.

>go-OS

Really? gOS actually sounds good and flows properly and is shorter than your faggy name. Why not use that?

FUCK THE FAA

LIBREATE THE SKIES NOW

so it could be pronounced 'goose' and ez logo choice

Using homebuilt avionics in an otherwise legally homebuilt aircraft is not illegal. Nothing about this is illegal.

Name it UFOS (Ultimate Flying Operating System) and use TempleOS as a starting point. This is how we build a UFO.

good luck getting anything FAA approved cuck. IPad's are fine if you want general direction to get anywhere. Garmin shit is expensive because it hard as fuck to get shit FAA approved. Good luck getting your open source project that will be flooded with retards and trannies FAA approved. You also need to get the hardware running it FAA approved. Basically your fucked hang yourself now and pay the money. Its expensive for a reason. Either that or get rid of the FAA.
