>So you believe. But I say to you: you are greater than the Jedi of former days.

>What makes you say that?

>Because unlike the Knights of old, Jedi Luke Skywalker… you are not afraid of the dark.

A few books have taken the position that the Jedi of the closing years of the Republic had, just like the Senate, become largely a shadow of their former self and chained themselves in traditions without question. Some also take the position that Luke's order is better for throwing out a lot of the old policies (only teach kids, no marriage, Shards are perfectly acceptable students). Do you think this works? Is it good storytelling? What do you think of its interaction with the Chosen One thing and "balance to the Force"?

The old order definitely became more "corrupt" and bureaucratic. There's was a whole series dedicated to this in Dark Horse called Jedi wherein we see the order from the perspectives of the rogue Quinlan Vos and Dooku (before his own complete corruption) where Vos isn't to flattered with hierarchy and Dooku became disillusioned because the Order had become just as corrupt as the Senate.

Luke's order was definitely a vast improvement over the original, even if it lead to some internal conflicts on rare occasions as was the case with Kyle and even Luke himself, but in the end they always stayed loyal to the light in the end. So if anything, temptation by the dark side should be considered a right of passage rather to test your own resolve rather than something to be feared.

By rights, it should be ALL the books taking this position, because you have to be pretty stupid (willfully or otherwise) to watch both trilogies and not come to the conclusion that the death of the Jedi Order and Luke's eventual break with a number of its teachings was necessary and justified by essentially the entire dramatic thrust of all six movies.

The Old Republic jedi did nothing wrong.

>b-but they didn't want to train Anaki-

Good! Qui-gon was a fucking retard and everything Yoda and Mace Dindu feared came true.

>The Old Republic jedi did nothing wrong.

Old Republic Jedi did *everything* wrong. Their extermination was just and necessary.

>kidnap infants from their biological parents

>train them as child-warriors

>justify the use of children instead of adults on the grounds that it makes the brainwashing easier

>if they fail their training, then ship the kids off to agricultural labour camps on some remote backwater planet for the rest of their lives

>"Don't worry, the labour camps are voluntary! There's nothing stopping them from leaving and making their own way in life, aside from the fact they have no resources of their own, few marketable skills due to the esoteric and specialized training regimen, and are as young as 13 when they have to choose between either being booted onto the street or being banished to the farm."

<nothing wrong

>be Mace Dindu

>oppose training a boy because he's old enough to have developed normal human feelings, relationships, and conscience, instead of being a blank slate to be worked into a typical Jedi sociopath

>hear a rumour from this boy, whom you distrust so much you tell it to him to his face, but nonetheless jump on the rumour because it gives you a chance to overthrow the elected government

>draw your weapons on him before you even tell him he's under arrest

>try to extrajudicially murder him, arguing that due process must not be applied because your "case" against him would never survive a court, senatorial inquest, or anything else governed by rational and rigorous rule of law

>"What the fuck, Anakin sided with the elderly, defeated politician begging for mercy that I was trying to kill, instead of me, the homicidal man who openly hates him, is committing treason, and belongs to an order that preaches that caring for one's parents is the path to evil!"

>"This clearly means I was right about everything and did nothing wrong!"

The reason "everything Yoda and Mace Dindu feared came true" was because they were short-sighted, arrogant, complacent fools.

Like the Alderaanian surprisingly said, Yoda and Dindu were the architects of their own demise. They helped make "everything they feared" become a reality.

luke's order worked better because he was the only top dog. there was no council to debate on what to do, he made decisions and let the masters make decisions on their own rather than sit in a committee and discuss how to act. all the other shit about kids n fucking is just side shit and not critical to the order's survival. besides that, denying them that only makes them lust for it more, just like with smoking and drinking.

The New Jedi Order abandoned the idea of lightsabers being the only weapon of a Jedi. Corran Horn, Kyle Katarn, Jaden Korr, and Mara Jade (just off the top of my head) all recognize the utility of keeping a blaster alongside their lightsaber.

Fun fact: Everytime someone from the fandom trying to fix the old Jedi Order, they are promoting exactly those things that led to it's downfall in the form of Anakin Skywalker. Did they even watch the movies?

> the Jedi need to allow people to marry.

Anakin Skywalker married, and it was one of his main driving points to abandon the Jedi Order.

> the Jedi need to allow older people to be trained.

Anakins connections to his family opened him up to strong emotions and the Dark Side.

> The Jedi were afraid to use the Dark Side and to open themselves up.

Everytime someone uses that sentence in universe he has a above 50 chance to completely fall to the Dark Side and loose everything.

If one wanted to argue that the old Jedi Order was bad, then because they did not follow their very simple code and their gut feeling. Every single time they went against it, they dug their own grave.

What they should have done:

> When Anakin wanted to become a Jedi

Follow the code, throw the kid out asap.

> When the Republic wanted them for the Clone Wars

Follow the code, Jedi are protectors of peace not warriors etc. They had nothing to win being in there.

The system of the Jedi code was working for millennia. The reason it failed 19 BBY wasn't because a disfunctional system was applied, it was because a very functional system was completely ignored repeatedly

Organic silicon-based lifeforms from planet Orax which were kind of like a mixture of crystal and coral with a complex and unique brain system. Most mainly got around via the use of droid bodies.
