Actually that's pretty easy, the Resurgent-class was rather jagged compared to the classic version, which combined with it's bowed hull made it sorta look like it had a gaping mouth at the front.

Mandator IVs are clearly flat slices of pizza with twin planet fucking dick guns.

You're right I guess in my mind it was different. Though I'm surprised how vulnerable ep7's ship looks.

They sort of look like big grey blobs if you aren't looking at the image often. At least in the EU Empire ships were more memorable like the Tartan or Dreadnaught.

>Though I'm surprised how vulnerable ep7's ship looks.

Eh, the Resurgent-class apparently had plenty of point defenses, probably even more so than the Imperial-classes.

The Mandator IV's, however, looks like they were outright designed to suffer from "Trench Run Disease," especially since the film crew was outright required by story mandates to give it that flat dorsal hull.

>They sort of look like big grey blobs if you aren't looking at the image often.

Yeah, but that's kinda what happens with most Star Wars designs anymore…

Yeah, but like >>2203 points out, Disney wants a safe bet of nostalgia milking over the risky gamble that was the Prequels.

And its not exactly unfounded either, just look up the Lego model for the First Order Heavy Scout Walker, otherwise known as the poor-man's Strandbeest.

I'm kind of glad that someone realized it might be time to introduce a different type of warship than just a destroyer in the post-Tarkin Doctrine era, but as with all Disney designs it just doesn't look good. The bridge is impractically elongated and the meager armaments protruding from the hull look pathetic. But after lazily editing those out, it just highlights how flat and uninspired the hull is even moreso.

It shouldn't be hard to design a decent looking imperial warship variant, Star Wars games have been doing that for decades and they never needed penis cannons. Even the Resurgent-class from TFA could look half-decent if the hull was patched up instead of looking exposed, and if the bridge was a few decks less obese.

Because Disney is making movies for adults who thought the prequels were the most badass thing in their childhood. Let alone all the other bullshit Disney loves to shove in their "works of art" these days.

They don't care about the logistics of what it would take to make starships, in secret mind you, that are made very obviously for aggressive action. I mean, they made a goddamn planet into a giant laser-zappy gun, because that is impressive to people who beat off to CGI.

Ultimately, I believe any given nerd with no compulsion to make a self-insert could probably make a story somewhere in the upper-billions of times better than the last couple.

Just found another shit… reading the wiki article about Darth Vader…

So now, in the nu canon… Vader became stronger in the Force after being mutilated in Mustafar… wfT?

>After his cybernetic reconstruction, Vader's connection to the Force strengthened considerably, to the point where his master Sidious once complimented his powers as being "unparallelled".[131][73] Though his injuries had crippled his physical body, Vader believed that the suffering that he had experienced had both perfected his spirit and freed him from the needs of the flesh, allowing him to concentrate solely on his relationship to the Force.[131]

Actually, not really. Even in the EU it was mentioned, by at least 2 or 3 writers, that the constant pain and anger his wounds caused him gave him a pretty significant boost to his power. Add to that, we're told he actually had to get creative and not just spam force lightning, I can dig that.

I imagine he also grew stronger as Vader thanks to the constant conflict with other Force Adepts and sentients, rather than shit tier droids.

The guy was a cripple who couldn't breath by his own, lost all his limbs, lived under a perpetual depression and guilty.

Vader had to use the Force just to move around, to deal with the weight from his armor, he had to insulate his armor just to not fry in the first 2 seconds after being hit by some lightning.

Remember, "a painter gone blind, a composer gone deaf". Vader was supposed to be stronger than the Emperor if he wasn't mutilated. That was Lucas saying "Vader = 80% of Palpatine" not me.

Boost from his anger and pain? It was just some surges, most of time Vader was mopping around. The Force was based on living tissue, "life creates it, makes it grow", not cybernetics. .

I do like the smooth organic aesthetic they went with for Return of the Jedi, it's like Lucas intentionally wanted the rebel fleet to follow a design philosophy that was the exact opposite of the industrial-looking sharp edges of the imperial ships. Imperial wedge design is among the best designs for offensive ships specifically, because it maximizes front-facing surface area of the vessel, which lets you mount more turbolasers and shit.

Unrelated, I came to this thread searching for a link to that website where the author tears into the nu-Wars ship designs with autistic fury and points out all of the flaws with them on a creative, visual, and technical level.

So new flags don't work on old threads, interesting.
