Yes they can. They can even apply a filter to make it look hand drawn. The real question is, do you have the talent to draw/write the program? Because Starfleet isn't going to have that kind of thing in their database. Unless you're planning on paying someone to use their holobrothel.

It's a hypothetical question friend, he merely wanted to know if one would be physically capable of it. Your answer also leaves no room for discussion. It's much more fun to get into the logistics of this sort of thing like in the reply I gave to him. We can expand on that further too; Does anyone actually have their own personal holodeck without a) it having been granted to them for research purposes or b) they're a business owner and it's used as a form of revenue? I can't say as I remember seeing that before. Leads me to believe that it's pretty expensive technology.

If you go by canon then there's only one of those things since it's technology from the far future and they only acquired it through time travel bullshit. If you go by STO which carries on after the Trek franchise then holograms are frequently used outside of ships suggesting they managed to reverse engineer it some time after Voyager got back or created some other form of portable holo-emitter.
Not sure if I'd want my own 2D character to be honest. Maybe just as something to play around with, not even in a lewd way. I'd much rather have something more real looking. It'd at least be immersive that way.

Pretty sure the big problem that Geordi and Barclay had was that they were holo-raping actual people. No one wants to walk into the holodeck and see the ugliest beta on the ship balls deep in their ass.
>and holograms are used as slave labour.
Holy shit did that scene piss me off. Why would they leave their sentience subroutines turned on? Make them mindless drones. And they could have looked like smooth-faced manikins. Why deliberately snub their inventor by leaving that face on them? And for that matter, why take the time to strip them all out of their ships and dump them on that planet when they could have just deleted the files and copied one over and over as needed? None of it added up.

Why build a slave force, then make them intelligent and give them the desire to read literature? It's like building an oven that wants to watch cat videos and jello fights. Fucking what? What? For what purpose?
Not to mention it drives home the absurdity of not having Photonic crew members everywhere, especially in positions that suit them perfect.
You can have holograms operating mining equipment or be doctors and even have tactical ranks, but what you can't use them to actually crew ships? You know what doesn't have to leave a room filling with toxic gas? A fucking hologram, literal non-people that could be used for hazardous emergency jobs. Remember those Federation fighters, Peregrine-class or something? One hit kill suicide craft, why the "noble" Federation would use them is beyond me because they use a real human being pilot, who then dies to everything with extreme ease. But holograms who could perform the same role are relegated to miners and doctor roles. It's retarded.
And holy fuck why not use an army of hardlight photonic dinosaurs to eat the Borg to death when they board the ship? Worf murdered a Borg with a hatchet-sword for fucks sake. Beating the shit out of the Borg actually works for some retarded reason. Put maces everywhere then fucking beat the Borg to death with photonic security teams comprised of unending copies of Orwelle in leather bikini straps. They cannot ever be assimilated ever. Why is the Federation so fucking retarded? Not even that but ships should be lined with photonic emitters. They could be used to make walls to shut intruders literally anywhere at any point in the ship, or to stop breaches inches away from the actual breach without having to shut down an entire corridor of the ship. Got Klingon soldiers heading for engineering? Make a giant photonic fucking Rhino to charge them down. What the fuck are they going to do to stop it?
Holograms and the Federation are a mixture of why's and what's that never end.

I always hoped that the Borg were smart enough where that wouldn't work more than once. The original concept of the Borg was supposed to be they adapted to whatever shit you threw at them, so if you used bullets they'd start fabricating anti-ballistic armor, or swords and they'd use plate armor and metal shields and shit.
Voyager and First Contact kind of shit on that idea in favor of 'you get a few phasor shots at them', but Best of Both Worlds had them easily stop a nanite attack and handle unconventional energy field attacks because they knew they were coming.
▶ 4bc358 (1) No.4714

Holograms are horrible, though. There's an episode of DS9 where the ship was crewed entirely by one insane hologram which killed the old crew, prior to that it was a small ship crewed with a few living things and a few holograms. Besides that, they require emitters to do anything (The doctor in DS9 got a mystical portable emitter from the future). They're susceptible to hacking, too, like when some Ferengi hacked the Barclay hologram and made it nearly murder the entire Voyager crew just to get some Borg nanites. So, basically, they're unreliable in pretty much every aspect. Not the kind of things you'd want to crew a ship, or fight a war.
Plus they're way too powerful when they go rogue. Very hard to keep a leash on them once they figure out they're nearly invincible and they develop a grudge.

Trouble is, anything you do interact with would HAVE to be 3D. So you end up in a situation where you have a whole bunch of objects around you transitioning from the 2D projection into 3D objects and back, which would be too much for the suppression of disbelief. Also if anything goes wrong on the holodeck, which it will, basically every single suitably sturdy 2D object that's not just a projection, but an actually physically interactable one would become a stupidly sharp blade.
At best it will be like those awful games where everyone looks like dolls based off of the characters, but not the 'proper' 2D art style. And honestly, that's kind of reassuring even to someone who barely reads anime, because in the kind of future Star Trek has, manga if not anime would still be very possible and far easier to distribute etc, always on a flat screen or replicated paper page. Compared to the absolute butchery the holodeck has done to live action shows, manga, and possibly western style comics as well, endure.

I disagree entirely. The forcefieds and the visual projections don't have to match up. Say you want to pick up a cup. You can pick it up and feel it in your hand, but it can still appear visually as a 2D cup in your hand. It would basically be like going through life with one eye, only a bit more extreme.

>her antennae twitched and wiggled around cutely the whole time
>a hour until quitting time when the shitwits on the bridge decided to charge us headfirst into a quantum nano electron time comet
>half the systems are fired and the other half is spewing poison gas and fire
>9 grueling hours later get sensors and some other minor online but comms are still scrambled to shit no matter what we do
>get a call saying someone is trapped on the holodeck
>can only hear the words safe, broken, Klingon and Jem'Hadar
>well shit
>1 hour later finally able to get the holodeck doors to open
>me and some other poor schmucks charge in phasers in hand expecting some dominion war reenactment gone wrong
>instead find a writhing mass of naked and screaming Klingons and Jem'Hadar
>at the bottom is the cutie Andorian girl
>she was running Fuck Slave 9: No Safe-word Edition with the Broken Toilet and Klingon & Jem'Hadar Duckfest expansion packs when everything went to shit and the holodeck malfunction
What do?

Have you never seen 3D anime models? Even a lot of 2D anime these days makes use of 3D animation techniques. With cel-shading, you can even give it a drawn look.

You've watched too much TNG and not enough TOS. It's not a matter of whether anime can be played in the holodeck.
It's about finding the planet where anime is real.

There are existing weapons that destabilize a holographic matrix. But, you could zerg rush an enemy if the emitters are properly armored and done right, I suppose.

Quark saying holosuits were for porn was a pretty big deal back in the day. Quite a ballsy move for a show from the 90s.

>You know 40k and the Dark Age of Technology? That's where the Federation is headed.
They implied that in Enterprise, with the ruined future, we were seeing the first days of the Age of Strife there.
>The Bajoran Wormhole expands throughout subspace, tearing the calm and gentle realm apart.
>The prophets are affected by the physical changes to their world, becoming the gods and daemons of Chaos.
>Bajorans become their first cultists, sacrificed en masse, nobody complains.
>Sisko is resurrected by the new Chaos Gods and begins preaching their perverted faith to any human who will listen
>Vulcans & Romulans are the only ones able to maintain their technology despite heavy losses, become the eldar and dark eldar.
>Khan returns to earth, becomes the God Emperor, gives non genetically engineered humans a purpose as Guardsmen and labourers, starts working on building gengineered Astartes
>Klingons get further flanderized as 'dumb warrior race guys' skin starts turning green for some reason.
>Standard star fleet greeting goes from 'we come in peace' to 'though shalt not suffer the xenos to live'.
>Every action now warrants its own heavy metal soundtrack

The thing there is that I can't see the federation citizens managing to survive the several centuries of 'kill or be killed' that would allow them to survive a DAoT scenario. If we look at the closest we have to that scenario in canon so far (the Maquis) they just seem to be too soft to manage that.

Some Fed colonies can survive. Fed core worlds though? Too soft and squishy. Places like Andor might survive it but anywhere that relies on softness to survive will perish.
