alright, am i missing something?

in star trek 3 kirk is supposed to be court martialed for stealing the enterprise

in star trek 4 he's on his way to being court martialed

in star trek 5 there's no mention of the court martial

did he ever get court martialed or what? later films don't make him look like he's been demoted or anything, unless i'm missing something

43dde7 No.1819

They decide not to court martial him and demote him to Captain for saving Earth.

Kirk is not above scrutiny but weirdly enough definitely above punishment

Being a hero does that. If you save enough people, defeat enough impossible situations, and build a cult of personality around yourself, you become untouchable because punishing you means punishing the morale of all the folks back home who look up to you and are busy voting "Yes" on the budget increase that the admiralty wants. Instead, any repercussions for your actions are handled privately and with finesse.

Kirk saved them from a giant space probe upset that it's friends were silent/dead in 4, so they simply bumped him back to captain which was less a punishment and more giving Kirk a position that he holds best.

>Kirk is not above scrutiny but weirdly enough definitely above punishment

It's kind of hard to punish a guy who's gone toe to toe with gods on a few occasions.

>>1882

>haven't even seen wrath of khan

Pic related.

It can't be bait. No one would ever joke about such a thing.

well, go watch them

TVH is a nice excuse to have an 80s comedy with TOS' cast

WOK is probably the best trek movie

in star trek 2, basically violating basic protocol not raising shields when defiant doesn't respond that savik quoted that led to significant damage and loss of life

if had been USN, kirk and spock would be out on their asses

>yellow alert

>but don't raise shields, we're the good guys

this is the kind of shit that always puts kirk in the losing position, even though he could have saved the ship lots of problems if he would just listen to that one chief of security

we do

but we need someone who actually knows what he's doing

last time i hosted a movie night on /tv/ we had 2 people because nobody wanted to download a plugin to stream videos from google drive

>this is the kind of shit that always puts kirk in the losing position

But Kirk always wins, anyway. I think he cares less about the people he loses than he does about the opportunities to beat impossible odds.

A big chunk of Star Trek 4.

Sad part is I've watched the WoK in the past week on Hulu and still made the slip. In my defense, DS9 was the best series.

That's not a defense.

857887 No.2135

>That's not a defense.

Khan (or Kahn?) only won because Kirk forgot to raise the shields. So much for his superior intellect, he's the woman driver of the Trek universe. Khan couldn't even manage three-dimensional strategy, some arch-nemesis, only suited for a beta faggot like Kirk.

KAHHHHNNNNNN!!!!
