Star Trek Voyager, why do you have weird clones of character from TNG? Even played by the same actors.

e0a154 (1) No.1127>>1140 >>1159

Voyager uses recycled TNG material. They even wanted Worf in Voyager

How the hell would they have swung Worf? Credibility was stretched enough just bringing Riker onboard for one episode.

4cf664 (1) No.1143

>>1140

Voyager was the cesspool of all rejected ideas and plots that Rick Berman wanted to shove out. It didn't help they had to bring in different writers and producers constantly with different ideas with a few that were trying to sort shit out quitting. As a result it was just a complete mess of badly thought out stories that never really went anywhere or worked as intended. It also had zero continuality with characters or plots that even Kate Mulgrew thought that her character must have been bi-polar due to how inconsistent Janeway was.

>They even wanted Worf in Voyager

>How the hell would they have swung Worf?

1. That would have been awful unless Janeway died and he became the Captain

2. I can't believe how much of Michael Dorn's life was spent in a makeup chair. Why in the hell would he have wanted a THIRD series where he spent 4 hours a day get a turtle shell grafted to his forehead?

Don't tease.

I was repulsed by "Admiral Janeway" in Star Trek Nemesis. Especially because if they were going to do some tie-in shit like that, they should have taken two minutes and said something like "I'm meeting with the Emissary of the Prophets in two weeks to discuss Bajor's request for a new starbase." I mean, who the fuck deliberately ends a series with a major protagonist lost in limbo?

d4bd4c (1) No.1196>>1211

DS9 was meant to have 8 seasons instead of 7.

Really? The Nitpicker's Guide said they were supposed to have six instead of seven, which the author used to excuse the fact that he had a guide that ended on a cliffhanger episode.

Anyway, my point still stands. Cisco is still in limbo as far as I can tell. Which means Jake's probably in his third year of engineering at Star Fleet Academy as he frantically tries to figure out a way to bring him home.

"The Visitor" is my all time favorite DS9, by the way.

Tuvok was a Klingon on DS9. He was also one of the clowns that tried to hijack the Enterprise when it was going through the car wash, but Picard beat him with a saddle. And he was the guy flying the Enterprise B at the beginning of Generations.

Think of all the things you've seen Michael Dorn in since Star Treks have gone off the air. He does vidya and cartoon voice work, and I guess he pops up in some different shows now and again, but I'm thinking he wants a steady paycheck.

>And he was the guy flying the Enterprise B at the beginning of Generations.

Tim Russ was on the Excelsior in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and they retconned him into Tuvok on Voyager (good thing he has naturally pointy ears). I've never found any evidence to prove my theory, but I always assumed the retcon carried over to the other helmsman of the Enterprise B.

Of far greater impact to the universe at large, though, it turns out that Tuvok used to work for a certain galactic empire. And he still ain't found shit.

Ted 2. Where he played Worf. Who was bullying geeks at a con with his gay life-partner, the Tick.

>but I'm thinking he wants a steady paycheck.

The voice work should be more than enough to keep him in shekels. He's got a gift for it. Mind you, his characters all sound like Michael Dorn, so maybe people use him sparingly.

because jews.

The people in charge of Voyager - being dull, creatively-defunct hacks - wanted to recycle characters from TNG but if they did so literally, they would have had to pay the original writer/creators of those characters for every appearance on Voyager. So, they just changed the name.

Jesus, that is some high level cheapness. I wonder how much we're talking about.

You'd think all the characters created for Star Trek would be corporate property, like when you work for comics.

e114bc (1) No.1383

>>1375

It's kind of worse, it's the fact the guys behind Voyager weren't able to do the scripts they wanted on TNG cause people thought they were trash so when Gene died they attempted to do them via Voyager.

099a65 (6) No.1472

>>1339

I imagine it has something to do with the fact that they already have head castings (to craft prosthetics) so it takes less time and money to get the same guys to come in and play different roles. I remember Nog played a Kazon once in Voyager.

What's his name in the first two pics was supposed to play the same character as in TNG, but they sperged out and decided that character's crimes were too severe and didn't deserve a second chance.

Dukat was a recast, the original actor was fired because he wasn't working out.

I could give you a mundane answer based on the realities of production like everyone else. I prefer a fantastical explanation based on canon and science. My theory revolves around Janeway's use of Borg trans-warp conduits to go back in time and basically undo everything. Some scientists believe the future can have an effect on the past. This gives us a convenient cop-out for anything that doesn't make sense.

This does make sense, we have seen awfully little of cloning in ST and it is bound to exist, pretty sure Section 31 uses this technology extensively, I mean Sloan is probably just a clone, that's how he can be everywhere all the time

Paris was supposed to be Locarno but they didn't want to pay the writer of that TNG episode every Voyager episode.

Same with Major Kira being Ro Laren. Except in that situation they also changed the actress.

There aren't many details known, when this type of thing happens it's common practice to keep it quiet to not hurt the reputations of the people involved.

Though when it happened with Janeway it was too high profile to ignore. One thing people generally don't know about Janeway though is that the characters scenes in Caretaker were filmed 3 times, once with Bujold and twice with Mulgrew. They did Mulgrew again because in the first round her original hairstyle didn't work out.
