Opposition to 5G roll out in Mayo

The roll-out of 5G mobile and broadband networks is set to be halted in Mayo until the health implications of the system are resolved.

Recent reports state serious concerns about the health risks of the higher energy radiation which could deliver potential damaging effects which experts say could include damage to DNA and lead to cancer or cause oxidative damage that could cause premature aging.

In a notice of motion at last week’s monthly meeting of Mayo County Council, Cllr Michael Kilcoyne requested the members oppose the roll out of the 5G mobile network and that the council would not facilitate in any way the deployment of 5G in the county until the health implications are known. He said this was in exercising their responsibility to protect the public and the environment from harm.

The motion also requested the members call on ComReg to delay licencing for 5G and call on the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment to establish the facts about the radiation impact of 5G on the environment and, in particular, on human health and that a report be compiled and presented to the Oireachtas.

Regardless of the cell provider you choose, the range from you to the cell tower is greatly reduced – frequently to 100-200 meters (aka one city block).

At 5Ghz, the RF signal is susceptible to all kinds of interferrence, even rain. Current test have shown that just turning your back to the tower can induce a fallback.

Analysis:

Doubtful that gamers will be playing on mobile devices as they want HD screens. So unless you live in an urban, hi-density area with a cell tower on the corner, you will not see the fulfillment of highspeed downloads at home.​

Conjestion control would be a great feature at large events, such as the U.S. Open, Wimbledon, Indianapolis 500, Kentucky Derby, Rose Bowl, … you get the point … but these are all one-time events and without a ticket, so what?​

So on balance, which impacts the market more strongly? In IMO, the CONs and thus the consumer will be disgruntled by over-hyped expectations, overly priced devices and too little delivery.
