Elizabeth Warren Held Winery Fundraiser in 2018 with Perks for Big Donors

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) held a fundraiser at the City Winery Boston in 2018, which included a souvenir wine bottle and “VIP experiences” for big donors, calling into question her recent critique of Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) and his “wine cave” fundraiser.

The two candidates sparred over Buttigieg’s “wine cave” fundraiser during Thursday’s debate, leading Buttigieg to defend his openness of wealthy contributors.

“So the mayor just recently had a fundraiser that was held in a wine cave full of crystals and served $900-a-bottle wine,” she said. “Think about who comes to that.”

Buttigieg reminded Warren of her past, as she attended big fundraisers hosted by wealthy donors as recently as 2018.

That year, she attended a fundraiser at the City Winery Boston, which featured singer Melissa Etheridge. The event doled out souvenir wine bottles for those who donated $1,000. Those who gave $2,700 were “offered VIP experiences,” according to Fox News.

“This was the danger in the @ewarren ‘wine cave’ attack on @PeteButtigieg,” former Obama chief strategist David Axelrod tweeted.

“Her own past fundraising practices were pretty much in line with his, including even some of the same high dollar sponsors,” he added. “She invited stories like this. Unforced error”:

Warren, who has received support from at least 30 billionaires over the course of her political career, defended her winery fundraiser, claiming that she simply “saw how the system works” and had a change of heart when she decided to launch her presidential campaign.

“I decided when I got in the presidential race that I wanted to do better than that,” Warren told reporters over the weekend, according to Slate.

“And that’s why I just quit doing it. I don’t sell access to my time. I don’t call high-dollar fundraisers. I’m out there raising money grassroots all across this country because I want to move this in the right direction,” she said.

“We can’t be a country that just keeps getting worse and worse,” she added.

Nonetheless, Warren has co-hosted a number of the fundraisers she frequently critiques.

As the New York Post reported:

Alix Ritchie, who has donated more than $20,000 to Warren, said she had co-hosted events and attended others.

“Many of the events for her that I went to were on the Cape in the summer,” said Ritchie, formerly the publisher of the Provincetown Banner newspaper. “They would have wine and some kind of finger food. It’s pretty standard. It wasn’t any different from what other people do. She raised money the way every candidate raises money.”

Warren has also attended fundraisers on Manhattan’s Upper East Side and in Greenwich Village and at a mansion in Santa Monica, California.

The events brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars for her Senate campaigns and other Democratic causes.

Famous names sponsored fundraisers for Warren, too. Among them: actors Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, as well as well-known Democratic donors such as financier George Soros.

In 2012, she attended a New York fundraiser hosted by the same donor, Kevin Ryan, who put on a Buttigieg event this month that drew protesters who support her as well as Sanders.

Nevertheless, Warren now claims she does not “sell access to my time.”

“I don’t do call time with millionaires and billionaires,” she said during the debate.

While Warren touts her presidential campaign as 100 percent grassroots-funded, she transferred over $10 million from her senatorial bid — a time she attended swanky fundraisers and gave facetime to big donors — to cushion her campaign.

Chinese Researcher Accused of Trying to Smuggle Biological Material Out of US

A Chinese researcher was arrested in Boston on suspicion of stealing vials of biological samples, according to court documents unsealed on Dec. 19.

Customs officials stopped Zheng Xiaosong for questioning at Boston Logan International Airport on Dec. 9, upon flagging him as “a high risk for possibly exporting undeclared biological material,” a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent said in an affidavit filed with the Massachusetts district court on Dec. 12.

Zheng, a 29-year-old researcher at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital in China’s southern province of Guangdong, came to Harvard University’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as a visiting graduate student in pathology. He was heading to Beijing at the time of the arrest.

An examination of Zheng’s checked bags found 21 vials of unknown brown liquid wrapped in a plastic bag and hidden in a sock, the document said, adding that both typed and handwritten descriptions and notes accompanied the vials.

“These vials contained what appeared to be biological materials that were not properly declared or packaged for transportation in commercial aircraft,” the agent said.

According to the document, the FBI has seized the unknown samples for further examination.

The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The New York Times has a curious article posited today surrounding U.S. Attorney John Durham who is doing the deep investigation into DOJ, FBI, CIA and intelligence community political espionage in the 2016 election and early Trump presidency.

CTH readers are very familiar with the granular details of what’s commonly referred to as “spygate”; the unofficial weaponization of the intelligence apparatus against candidate Donald Trump, president-elect Trump, and later President Trump.

The Times posts their article about Durham’s investigation against the backdrop of the completed inspector general report on DOJ/FBI misconduct in their FISA exploits.

While the majority of the narrative engineering is oddly irrelevant; and it doesn’t take a long review to notice the Times scribes have a motive to frame Durham’s eventual outcome as adverse to their own political interests; there is one particular paragraph that seems exceptionally curious:

This court filing bolsters CTH analysis that rushed House articles are a means to an end. That is – a way for House lawyers to argue in court all of the constitutionally contended material is required as evidence for pending judicial proceedings, a trial in the Senate.

This would explain why all the prior evidence debated for inclusion and legal additions to “articles of impeachment” were dropped. Instead the House focused only on quickly framing two articles that can facilitate pending court cases.

REMINDER: The House Judiciary Committee (HJC) led by Chairman Jerry Nadler has been seeking: (1) Mueller grand jury material; (2) a deposition by former White House counsel Don McGahn; and less importantly (3) Trump financial and tax records. Each of these issues is currently being argued in appellate courts (6e and McGahn) and the supreme court (financials/taxes).

Looking at the legal maneuvers from that perspective means the grand jury material is the unspoken goal and impeachment is simply the enhanced means to obtain it.

The 6(e) material relates to evidence gathered by the Mueller team for grand jury proceedings in their two-year effort to construct a case against President Trump.

Remember, the Mueller evidence was gathered during a counterintelligence investigation, which means all things Trump -including his family and business interests- were subject to unbridled surveillance for two years; and a host of intelligence gathering going back in time indefinitely. A goldmine of political opposition research.

Obviously if Jerry Nadler could get his hands on this material it would quickly find its way into the DNC, and ultimately to the 2020 democrat candidate for president. This material would also be fuel for a year of leaks to DC media who could exploit rumor, supposition, and drops of information that Andrew Weissmann and team left to be discovered.
