Fiat Chrysler reaches tentative labor deal with United Auto Workers

DETROIT (Reuters) – Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV <FCHA.MI> and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union on Saturday announced a tentative agreement for a four-year labor contract, a boost for the automaker as it works to merge with France’s Groupe PSA <PEUP.PA>.

Italian-American Fiat Chrysler and PSA, the maker of Peugeot and Citroen, last month announced a planned $50 billion merger to create the world’s fourth-largest automaker.

The tentative agreement with Fiat Chrysler, which is subject to ratification by the union members, follows contracts that the UAW already concluded with Ford Motor Co <F.N> and General Motors Co <GM.N>.

The deal with GM followed a 40-day strike in the United States that virtually shuttered GM’s North American operations and cost the automaker $3 billion.

The UAW on Saturday said the contract with Fiat Chrysler included a commitment from FCA to invest $9 billion, creating 7,900 new jobs over the course of the four-year contract. Of the $9 billion, $4.5 billion was announced earlier this year, to be invested in five plants and creating 6,500 jobs.

Detailed terms of the tentative agreement were not released, but they are expected to echo those under the new contracts with GM and Ford, as the UAW typically uses the first deal as a pattern for the others.

“FCA has been a great American success story thanks to the hard work of our members,” UAW acting President Rory Gamble said in a statement. “We have achieved substantial gains and job security provisions for the fastest growing auto company in the United States.”

Ratification is not a sure thing. Rank-and-file UAW members at FCA in 2015 rejected the first version of a contract. In addition, a lawsuit related to a federal corruption probe could also raise doubts among union members about the terms agreed.

The federal corruption led GM to file a racketeering lawsuit against FCA, alleging that its rival bribed union officials over many years to corrupt the bargaining process and gain advantages, costing GM billions of dollars. FCA has brushed off the lawsuit as groundless.

Under the UAW’s deal with GM, the automaker agreed to invest $9 billion in the United States, including $7.7 billion directly in its plants, and to create or retain 9,000 UAW jobs. Ford’s contract included commitments to invest more than $6 billion in its U.S. plants and to create or retain more than 8,500 UAW jobs.

US Enraged After 6 More EU Nations Join INSTEX To Bypass Iran Sanctions

On Friday six European countries issued a bombshell joint statement declaring their intent to join INSTEX, or the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges, a European special-purpose vehicle serving as a 'SWIFT alternative' to bypass US sanctions on Iran.

Finland, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden released a joint statement asserting it's of "the utmost importance to the preservation and full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) on Iran’s nuclear program by all parties involved."

"In light of the continuous European support for the agreement and the ongoing efforts to implement the economic part of it and to facilitate legitimate trade between Europe and Iran, we are now in the process of becoming shareholders of the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (Instex) subject to completion of national procedures," the statement reads.

Instex is an initiative set up by France, Germany and the UK in January 2019 to provide humanitarian and sanctions relief to Iran after in November 2018 the SWIFT network suspended Iranian banks under Washington pressure, months after Trump pulled the US out of the nuclear deal.

Though the new alternative financial device had shaky beginnings amid further aggressive threats from the US administration, it continued through a trial phase even though Tehran officials had complained it appeared 'too little, too late'.

But now as this latest six country statement announces, it will serve as the European vehicle to “facilitate legitimate trade between Europe and Iran,” while also providing incentive for Tehran to return to its commitments under the JCPOA, specifically to recently breached uranium enrichment limits. Upon the announcement, US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell lambasted the move, saying:

After AG Barr and US Attorney John Durham reportedly expanded their investigation into the beginnings of Russia collusion after their trips to Rome in August and September. At the same time, complaints of John Brennan holding a security clearance were back in the news.

John Durham, the U.S. attorney tasked with investigating the origins of the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign in 2016, is expected to seek an interview with former CIA Director John Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper following an expansion of his investigation.

It was reportedly the meetings Durham and Attorney General William Barr recently had in Rome—where they obtained new evidence—that were the impetus for the broadening of the scope of the probe.

According to Fox News’ Catherine Herridge, her sources told her that Durham is now “very interested to question” Brennan and Clapper.

According to Herridge, the meetings “took place on Aug. 15 and Sept. 27, 2019, in Rome,” and that it was during one or both of these trips, that Barr and Durham “gathered new evidence.”

The news comes following months of speculation about whether the former top Obama officials would be questioned over their involvement in the investigation and spying on the Trump campaign.

It was recently revealed in a court motion by the lawyer for former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, that the Justice Department (DOJ) had obtained two cell phones belonging to Joseph Mifsud, a Maltese Professor who has been cited as playing a key role in the FBI’s determination to open its probe into the Trump campaign.

Ironically, at the exact same time calls were made to remove former Obama CIA Director John Brennan’s security clearance.

The news of Brennan’s security clearance not being revoked came out at the exact same time as Barr and Durham’s first visit to Rome.

This leads us to believe that whatever they found is connected to Obama and Brennan’s CIA.

‘We’re working for the dark side’: Spanish firm accused of spying on Assange by German broadcaster boasted of US intelligence ties

A private security firm that allegedly spied on Julian Assange in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London bragged about its nefarious activities and ties to US intelligence, according to German public broadcaster NDR.

The troubling revelations are part of a criminal complaint filed by NDR against Undercover Global, a Spanish security company contracted by the Ecuadorian government to film and review guests at their embassy in London.

The firm is accused of using the commission to carry out a vast spying operation targeting the WikiLeaks co-founder, who sought political asylum in the embassy for seven years before his hosts handed him over to British authorities. The German broadcaster claims to have a huge cache of documents detailing the illegal surveillance operation – which also targeted NDR journalists who visited Assange.

Former employees of Undercover Global said that the company’s CEO, David Morales, didn’t try to hide his ties to the US government. Upon returning from a trip to the United States, Morales allegedly told one of his employees: “From now on, we play in the first league… We are now working for the dark side.” He is said to have traveled up to twice a month to the States to deliver materials taken from the Ecuadorian Embassy.

When asked by colleagues who his “American friends” were, Morales reportedly replied: “the US Secret Service.”

Incredibly, a lawyer from Undercover Global acknowledged to NDR that the company works with US intelligence agencies – but denied any wrongdoing at the Ecuadorian Embassy.

Government agencies in the US and Ecuador declined to comment on the criminal complaint.

After being assigned to the mission six months ago, ISA members were among the Operation Geronimo squad of Navy commandos who killed bin Laden in his Abbottabad fortress in the early hours of Monday morning.

And in addition to the chief aim of liquidating the terrorist leader, they also found a “treasure trove” of five computers, 10 hard drives and more than 100 computer memory devices, including DVDs and memory sticks.

Even as bin Laden’s bloodied corpse was being airlifted to Afghanistan for DNA testing, the seized material was being emptied of information by specialist technicians seconded to the CIA who used a “plug in and suck out” device – computer hardware that milks other computers of every scrap of data.

As soon as it was downloaded and copied, the material was sent to America’s National Security Agency “cryptoanalysis” unit in Maryland, USA.

There the CIA began painstakingly sifting through the “OBL files” as members of Grey Fox linked to CIA stations throughout the Middle and Far East and Asia were put on standby for more “kill or capture” missions.

Within hours of bin Laden’s death, it emerged the computer data included communications between senior al-Qaeda members and their leader.

High-Ranking Officer Arrested on Over 600 Counts of Child Sexual Abuse

A West Virginia Corrections Officer apparently wanted to be a part of the prison population he served so badly he allegedly raped a young girl from the time she was 9 until she turned 13. He’s now facing hundreds of charges over the incident.

For his crimes, James Cain, 48 of Salem, WV was charged with over 600 counts of child sex charges. Cain already admitted to sexually assaulting the young victim. Evidence has also been collected from the home where the sexual assaults took place which included photos of the girl’s naked body.

Unfortunately, the girl is apparently a member of Cain’s own family. According to News 13 WOWK:

Cain is charged with 104 counts of first degree sexual assault; 208 counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian or person in a position of trust to a child; 104 counts of third-degree sexual assault; 208 counts of incest; and charges of use of minors in filming sexually explicit conduct and sending, distributing, exhibiting, possessing, displaying or transporting material by a parent, guardian or custodian depicting a child engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Cain is no stranger to law enforcement having served for over 15 years as a high ranking corrections officer as a lieutenant in the Salem Correctional Facility. He is being held at the North Central Regional Jail and his bail has been set at $600,000.

Unfortunately, judges and prosecutors often consider an officer’s contribution to society when determining a sentence for officers such as Cain. Equally disturbing are sexual assaults by officers who later, following sex crimes charges, spend zero days in jail.

Over a four and a half year period of time in Arizona, 13 prison guards were arrested and charged with sex crimes against inmates. None of them spent a day in jail. The office of then district attorney and now AZ Supreme Court Justice Bill Montgomery handled 11 of the 13 cases. In each one of the cases guards were given plea deals some might say amounted to special treatment, dropping most of the serious charges against the jailers.

Now, several victims of the corrections officers are now attempting to sue the state. AZ Central described how the officers received a slap on the wrist for their crimes.

Prosecutors in all 13 cases dropped one or more of the serious felony charges — which in nearly all cases could have resulted in more than two years of prison per charge — in exchange for a guilty plea to either a misdemeanor or the lowest-level felony (class 6). Those who pleaded to a class 6 felony had the charge “undesignated,” meaning that after sentencing and probation, a judge could change the felony record to a misdemeanor.

Women's group blasts Catholic charity for erecting a memorial to aborted babies

The Knights of Columbus, a Catholic charity organization, is facing accusations of "shaming women" after the group erected a monument to aborted babies in a Canadian cemetery, according to LifeSiteNews.

"Life is sacred. In memory of all victims of abortion," says the inscription on the tombstone in St. James Roman Catholic Cemetery in the southern Ontario's bay town of Belleville. It also includes a biblical verse from the Book of Jeremiah. "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born, I consecrated you."

Protesting the tombstone

Local activists were offended by the gravestone's presence after learning about it on social media.

"Can you believe this?" wrote one on Facebook. "Knights of Columbus Belleville - Council #1008 (all men) organized this absolutely shameful act (dedicated this monument on November 2-2019) and also posted it on their facebook page."

Meanwhile, on Nov. 16, a group called Warrior Women of Quinte organized a protest in city's downtown area that was attended by about 30 people.

National Post reported that group coordinator Elissa Robertson addressed attendees at the demonstration where she accused the Catholic charity of "attacking a women's right to choose."

"It was designed to shame people. I think it was absolutely uncalled for and that money they put into this anti-abortion monument could have done a lot of good somewhere else," said Robertson. "It ties into patriarchal values and this idea that women's bodies are meant to be controlled by men. It's a broader issue that ties into violence against women, it ties into health care, it ties into safety."
