Stark claimed in April that Swalwell had taken "bribes," including payments in a deal in which he voted to rezone an area of Dublin for a development known as The Promenade. Stark later apologized, acknowledging that there was no evidence that Swalwell broke the law, but there was evidence of pay-to-play.

>In The Promenade deal, the Lin family, which owns a substantial amount of real estate in the Tri Valley, and the family's company, Charter Properties, began writing checks to Swalwell's congressional campaign last fall just days after Swalwell voted in their favor. According to Swalwell's FEC filings, two members of the Lin family each contributed the maximum $2,500 to Swalwell's congressional campaign

At Swalwell's campaign party following his impressive second-place finish in the June primary, Tong was in attendance and was seen congratulating Swalwell for the night's results.

>DUBLIN --- A prominent Dublin developer, who pleaded guilty last year to violating environmental laws, is facing federal charges again, this time for election fraud. James Tong, 72, was indicted last week by a grand jury for allegedly making illegal campaign contributions to an unnamed candidate running a re-election campaign for a seat on the U.S. House of Representatives.

>Election law in 2012 prevented one person from contributing more than $5,000 to a single candidate during an election cycle. Now, the amount is $5,200. The Election Act also doesn’t allow one person to make contributions to a candidate under another name, according to the indictment. But between March and December 2012, Tong allegedly made more than $10,000 in contributions to a committee for the candidate running for Congress, according to the indictment. Also between October 2013 and December 2013, he allegedly made another $10,000 in contributions to an authorized committee for the same candidate.

Ritz’s Chinese owners likely to be much like American counterparts

The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, is being sold. Again. In fact, keeping track of who holds the purse strings for the city’s main transient occupancy tax engine is increasingly difficult. Knowing whether it matters is harder still.

You may have been laboring under the misconception that the resort at the end of Miramontes Point Road was owned by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. But, no. Our Ritz has been a part of Strategic Hotels and Resorts, which is a portfolio of the Blackstone Group … since December. Now comes word that a Chinese insurance conglomerate is about to pay Blackstone $450 million more than it paid for 16 luxury properties that include the Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay.

The new owners will apparently be Anbang Insurance Group Co. The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that Anbang and other Chinese companies are increasingly seeking financial refuge in the United States as their own domestic economy loses steam. Furthermore, we’re told Anbang and other Chinese purchasers of luxury-branded U.S. stuff are attracted to made-in-America brands that will benefit from the increasing travel of a blooming Chinese middle class.

Meet Eric Swalwell, graduate of Wells Middle School, Dublin High School (Class of ’99), University of Maryland (law degree) and Prosecutor with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. Eric is also President of the Dublin High Alumni Association and is planning to run for Dublin City Council in the 2010 midterm election [UPDATE -- Eric was elected to Dublin City Council in the 2010 midterm election and was elected to represent California’s 15th Congressional District in the 113th Congress].

Eric started his Dublin education experience at Wells Middle School in 1992 where he developed both a love of soccer and what would later become his career choice -- the law. Wells Middle School and later Dublin High School’s Mock Trial teams developed Eric’s passion for the law. Eric correctly predicted in his article for the Dublin High Class of ’99 Yearbook regarding the Mock Trial Team: “Some of the students on this team may even go on to a profession in law.”

Eric was very active in Dublin High’s Athletic Program -- in football where he was a member of an NCS semi-finals team as well as on the tennis team. Eric was a member of Dublin High’s soccer team for four years playing goalkeeper, was named team MVP in his senior year and made First Team All-League, Tri-Valley Athletic Conference. With three younger brothers, Eric counted on a sports scholarship to make college an affordable reality and was mentored by Dublin High Class of ’98 graduate Chris Doyle. Doyle later went on to college with an athletic scholarship and ultimately played professional soccer in Britain.

Taking advantage of everything Dublin High had to offer, Eric also performed in the Dublin High Drama Club production of Macbeth (nudged by his English teacher who also taught Drama), was a member of the Leadership Team, the Mock Trial Team (under the tutelage of Dublin High School teacher and City of Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti), took journalism and wrote for the Dublin Gael Gazette (now the Dublin Shield) and led Homecoming as Rally Commissioner.

Eric’s Gael Gazette journalism assignment as a senior in December 1998 would foreshadow his future role as a prosecutor -- he was tasked to write about the tragic shooting of Alameda County Deputy Sheriff John Paul Monego during a botched robbery of Outback Steakhouse in Dublin. Eight years later Eric joined the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor – the same office that convicted Deputy Monego’s killer.

Eric’s hard work in the classroom, on the soccer field and in extracurricular activities earned him a full academic and athletic scholarship to Campbell University, majoring in Government and Politics. A soccer injury ended his athletic aspirations and prompted a transfer to the University of Maryland where he continued his studies, worked as an intern on Capital Hill and ultimately earned a degree in law.

After earning his law degree, Eric returned home to Dublin, passing the bar exam and took a job with the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office where he works today as a prosecutor.

Looking back at his Dublin High School experience, Eric advises students to take advantage of the diverse academic, athletic, performing / visual arts and extracurricular options Dublin High has to offer.

I think that it is important to establish when this picture is from and find some pictures of him from that time period for comparison.

San Francisco is not in Swalwell's district, but it's just Northwest of it. It's about an hour drive based on google maps.
