INCREASING ETHANOL IN GASOLINE IS FUCKING STUPID AND WILL MAKE AMERICA POOR AGAIN

Here's why:

Subsidies are bad economic practice.

If you were to subsidize farmers to create biofuel (which is what ethanol is), you get a much better return if:

-You grow either hemp or switchgrass

-You extract oil and use it for diesel (hemp)

-You take the hemp byproducts/switchgrass and convert it to bio-butanol (a drop-in replacement for gasoline that is much less corrosive than ethanol).

Using CORN for ethanol is fucking stupid b/c:

-You get 1.1 energy units out compared to what you put in

-Time & human energy spent growing food and burning it is stupid

-Ethanol is corrosive and destroys older vehicles, causing the poorest among us to either repair or replace a vehicle sooner than necessary.

Better yet, let farmers create biofuel from hemp and swtichgrass, and let them sell it tax free. Watch the market explode. Farmers make money. Consumers get cheap fuel. China can suck it. Win win win.

That is exactly what should happen (internal liberalization to compensate for mis-allocation of capital, which is what happens under subsidies - which in light of current development and facts, were a really bad fucking idea), for obvious reasons. If you understand economics, that is.

You also ignore the fact the ethanol is damaging to older vehicles, which causes destruction of poorer people's vehicles. Increasing its concentration in gasoline is really, really, fucking dumb.

Not to mention another fact I left out: which is 10% ethanol causes a 15-20% reduction in fuel economy, which means you have to purchase 5-10% more fuel to get the same miles per tank… Which further burdens the poor (who can ill afford it).

Ethanol is a crappy, counterproductive, foolish, totally fucking insane biofuel. No two ways about it.

If we wanted to use corn for fuel, it makes more sense to burn it directly at garbage-to-electricity generation plants, rather than first ferment it, process it, and then add it to gasoline. for all of the previous reasons.

We've already got the facilities all over the USA, for fuck's sake.
