Numerous M5+ earthquakes & aftershocks on Kilauea. This is on the edge of a mountain taller than Everest (most underwater).

Hawaii has had enormous slides throughout history. Megatsunami risk if it goes.

Links to follow.

Should it slide, will be the greatest disaster in US (and possibly recorded) history.

HAWAIIAN VOLCANO OBSERVATORY DAILY UPDATE

U.S. Geological Survey

Friday, May 4, 2018, 7:45 AM HST (Friday, May 4, 2018, 17:45 UTC)

KILAUEA VOLCANO (VNUM #332010)

19°25'16" N 155°17'13" W, Summit Elevation 4091 ft (1247 m)

Current Volcano Alert Level: WARNING

Current Aviation Color Code: ORANGE

Summary: An eruption is in progress along Kīlauea Volcano's lower East Rift Zone. Since late afternoon May 3, at least three small fissure vents have opened in Leilani Estates subdivision in the lower Puna district. At this time, activity consists mostly of vigorous lava spattering. Additional outbreaks in the area are likely. Deflationary tilt at the summit of the volcano continues and the lava lake level continues to drop.

Photos and maps of activity will be posted to the HVO web site as they become available. https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/volcanoes/kilauea/multimedia_chronology.html

Lower East Rift Zone:

The first outbreak of lava occurred late in the afternoon of May 3 following days of increased earthquake activity and ground deformation. As of this morning, three separate fissures have opened in the eastern portion of Leilani Estates. Each outbreak has been preceded by ground cracking and strong gas emission. Activity consists primarily of vigorous spattering of lava and development of very short lava flows that have yet to travel more than a few tens of yards from the vent. Earthquake activity in the area remains elevated and ground deformation is continuing. High levels of volcanic gas are reported around the fissure vents.

Residents of the Puna District to remain alert, review individual, family, and business emergency plans, and watch for further information about the status of the volcano. Hawaii County Civil Defense messages regarding conditions, warning, and evacuations may be found at http://www.hawaiicounty.gov/active-alerts/.

Summit Observations: Deflationary tilt at the summit continues. In concert, the summit lava lake is dropping. Tremor amplitude is fluctuating with lava lake spattering. Elevated summit sulfur dioxide emission rates persist. Gas emissions remain elevated. Current webcam views are here: https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/volcanoes/kilauea/multimedia_webcams.html

Puʻu ʻŌʻō Observations: Seismicity remains elevated at Puʻu ʻŌʻō but tiltmeters near the cone show no significant deformation overnight. During fieldwork at Puʻu ʻŌʻō yesterday, no lava activity was observed in the area. The 61g lava flow is no longer being fed. The summit crater of the cone continues to collapse intermittently producing small plumes of ash; yesterday there were several episodes of ash emission in response to collapse, including immediately after the nearby M5.0 earthquake.

Data from a slide long ago in the sqme area:

Perspective view of the Big Island of Hawaii, looking northeast. The giant Alika landslide descended the western slope of the volcano Mauna Loa (ML). The northern lobe of the landslide, Alika 2, was about 120 cubic miles in volume (the 1980 Mt. St. Helens landslide was less than one cubic mile). Sediments lying on top of the Alika 2 debris are 120,000 years old.

Always good to keep an eye on this type of Earth activity. And if you can, get a screenshot of the data asap in case it gets adjusted.

Also, there should be an earthquake directly opposite on the Earth. Quite interesting how that works if you are into that sort of thing.

My Shaman friend (passed away just over 1 yr ago), who lived in Hawaii, and I had a conversation about the Earth changes (volcanic and earthquake activity) approx 2 yrs ago. I asked him how bad was it going to get. He said the Earth is just adjusting after the last great catastrophe about 12,500 yrs ago and not to panic. But I keep an eye anyway and also in regards to the geomagnetic Pole Shift.

Cheers.

Seems like a kinda pointless thread… Kilauea has been active and erupting on and off for centuries. It's the type of volcano that spews lava rather than go kablooy (like Mt. St. Helens or Yellowstone)–pretty low chance of inflicting any casualties… Pretty low and the Happening scale.

Hawaii sits over a magma hotspot. Situation normal. No effect on magnetic reversals or missing lava. The "missing" lava is either still in the crater or flowed down the side of the volcano.

If you look at the current map of Hawaii and the number & location of earthquakes (currently 217 Mw.5 or greater over the past 24 hours) it overlaps the region likely to slide almost perfectly.

Tinyurl com/ydez3676

Will it go? Nobody knows. But 200+ earthquakes from 2.5 to 6.9 in one day on a ledge of a mountain is not reassuring.

"Experts" are claiming the remnants of the Hillna sluml (itself unstable" are propping everything up.

8b2cad No.1325461

So how energetic has the Hawaiian EQ swarm been?

I looked and found this:

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake is only equivalent to about 6 tons of TNT explosives, but because the Richter scale is a base-10 logarithmic scale, the amount of energy released increases quickly: A magnitude 5.0 earthquake is about 200 tons of TNT, magnitude 6.0 is 6,270 tons, 7.0 is 199,000 tons, 8.0 is 6,270,000 tons, and 9.0 is 99,000,000 tons of TNT. As you can imagine, 99 million tons of TNT is enough to destroy just about anything, and is the equivalent of about 25,000 nuclear bombs. (This is according to the Center for Earthquake Research and Information and the U.S. Geological Survey.)"

So the M6.9.was nearly a 200kT event. That's in the neighborhood of the one that collapsed the NK Nuclear testing mountain.

Food for thought.

image from NASA's Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument on NASA's Terra spacecraft show recent eruptions of Kilauea volcano on the island of Hawaii (the Big Island). Following days of increased seismic activity, Kilauea erupted May 3, 2008, and triggered a number of additional fissure eruptions along the East Rift Zone. The eruptions and high level of sulfur dioxide gas (SO2) prompted evacuations in the area, including the Leilani Estates subdivision near the town of Pahoa.

The ASTER images, acquired on May 6, 2008, show different aspects of the eruption. A color composite depicts vegetation in red, and old lava flows in black and gray. Superimposed on the image in yellow are hotspots detected on the thermal infrared bands. The easternmost hot spots show the newly formed fissures and the lava flow spilling to the northwest.

The middle spots are Pu'u O'o crater, and lava flows descending the slopes to the southeast. The westernmost area is the crater and lava lake on Kilauea's summit. The greenish area southwest of Pu'u O'o is ash deposits from its short eruption on Friday.

The inset shows the massive sulfur dioxide plume is shown in yellow and yellow-green, extracted from ASTER's multiple thermal bands. A smaller, but thicker, sulfur dioxide gas plume can be seen coming from Kilauea. The prevailing trade winds blow the plumes to the southwest, out over the ocean. The images cover an area of 57.8 by 63 kilometers, and are located at 19.3 degrees North, 155.1 degrees West.

With its 14 spectral bands from the visible to the thermal infrared wavelength region and its high spatial resolution of 15 to 90 meters (about 50 to 300 feet), ASTER images Earth to map and monitor the changing surface of our planet. ASTER is one of five Earth-observing instruments launched Dec. 18, 1999, on Terra. The instrument was built by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. A joint U.S./Japan science team is responsible for validation and calibration of the instrument and data products.

The broad spectral coverage and high spectral resolution of ASTER provides scientists in numerous disciplines with critical information for surface mapping and monitoring of dynamic conditions and temporal change. Example applications are: monitoring glacial advances and retreats; monitoring potentially active volcanoes; identifying crop stress; determining cloud morphology and physical properties; wetlands evaluation; thermal pollution monitoring; coral reef degradation; surface temperature mapping of soils and geology; and measuring surface heat balance.

The U.S. science team is located at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. The Terra mission is part of NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington, D.C.NASA images as new fissures open up

Nothing earth-shaking to report. Just wanted to share some of the journalistic excellence that AP belches out on a daily basis:

Awe and fear: Lava in Hawaii sloshes, oozes, crackles, roars

May 14, 2018 10:01 AM

By The Associated Press

Associated Press

PAHOA, Hawaii (AP) - The lava hisses, crackles and sizzles.

It roars like an engine, the sheer force causing an audible whoosh as it sloshes and bubbles.

It shoots into the sky, bright orange and full of danger, or oozes along the pavement, a giant bubbling blob of black marshmallow-looking mess, crushing homes and making roads impassable…"

"As the lava flows cool, they crackle and smolder, gray or black smoke rising. When it hardens, and the black lava breaks and falls to the ground, it sounds like glass breaking. Shards splinter underfoot as plumes of steam waft from giant cracks in the ground…"

"The heat near the lava becomes unbearable the closer you get. Even the cooler flows that are only creeping along slowly generate enough heat to turn you back. You can feel the warmth from the ground in the soles of your shoes…."

"If magma - the lava underground - comes in contact with ground water, it makes a high-pitched noise that sounds like a jet engine…."

Journalism 2018.

Can't spell crap without AP.

Here's where thinhs take an unexpected turn:

There is a geothermal plant which has been injecting water into the volcano to produce steam and thus produce power.

"However, more worrying for now is that fact that the lava crossed onto the Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) Saturday evening local time, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, having destroyed dozens of nearby houses in the past few days.

Since Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano began a once-in-a-century-scale eruption May 3, authorities have shutdown the plant, removed 60,000 gallons of flammable liquid and deactivated wells that tap into steam and gas deep in the Earth’s core.

But, as Reuters reports, lava has never engulfed a geothermal plant anywhere in the world and the potential threat is untested, according to the head of the state’s emergency management agency.

Residents have complained of health hazards from emissions from the plant since it went online in 1989 and PGV has been the target of lawsuits challenging its location on the flank of one of the world’s most active volcanoes.

The Israeli-owned 38 megawatt plant typically provides around 25 percent of electricity on the Big Island, according to local power utility Hawaii Electric Light.

Operator Ormat Technologies last week said there was no above-ground damage to the plant but it would have to wait until the situation stabilized to assess the impact of earthquakes and subterranean lava flows on the wells.

However, as we detailed previously, there is a long-running debate about whether PGV is fracking. The debate may be a matter of terminology, because in the geothermal process, as hawaiifracking.com reports, “…the drilling and the injection of cold water into hot rocks used in geothermal energy plants does fracture the rocks, which can induce earthquakes and through contamination of the atmosphere and water tables can affect our health and safety.”

Whether deep injection of fluid aims to capture oil, gas, or heat (geothermal), the beginning stage of the process is the same.

Earthquakes induced by this water-injection could obviously trigger a volcano."

"For example, here is an alarming article about a geothermal project in Switzerland. Swissinfo.ch, December 10, 2009:

“The authorities in canton Basel City say they will cancel a geothermal energy project, which three years ago caused minor tremors that damaged many buildings.”

“A risk analysis study published on Thursday found that the danger of setting off more earthquakes was too great if drilling at the site resumed.”

“The project was put on hold three years ago after thousands of claims for damage were filed with insurers. Total costs for the damage were around SFr9 million ($8.78 million).”

“The study, commissioned by the canton, concluded that Basel was ‘unfavourable’ for geothermal power generation.”

“It said the resumption of Deep Heat Mining project and its operation over a 30-year period could set off around 200 tremors with a strength of up to 4.5 on the Richter Scale – in 2006, the quakes were about 3.4.”

“This would result in damages up to SFr40 million.”

“The Basel facility drilled five kilometres into the earth. The borehole was designed to be injected with water to capture the extreme heat. Back at the surface, the hot water – at a temperature of around 160° Celsius – would run a steam turbine coupled with a generator.”

"This Swiss article outlines the risks, and also confirms that deep water-injection is used in the geothermal process—which can and does trigger earthquakes."

Wall of text, I know. The next post is gonna make your jaw drop…

Ormat is no stranger to scandals. At blog.heartland.org, H Sterling Burnett writes (4/1/15):

"One scandal that could haunt [Harry] Reid for his remaining time in the Senate (and possibly beyond) was reported on recently in the Washington Free Beacon and Courthouse News. It seems the Reid helped the green energy company, Ormat Technologies, a firm that owns and manages geothermal plants in California and Hawaii, secure nearly $136 million in economic stimulus funding from the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.”

“Two former employees are suing the firm, claiming Ormat executives defrauded the United States of more than $130 million by reporting false information about two projects to get government grants, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.”

“Reid’s ties to Ormat are deep. The company runs geothermal plants in Nevada and Reid has been a big booster of the company in D.C. As reported in the Free Beacon, ‘Reid bragged about securing Ormat a $350 million loan guarantee from the Department of Energy (DOE) and took credit for expanding the Treasury program that the former employees say illicitly provided Ormat with millions more in taxpayer funds’.”

“It is also worth noting that Ormat’s DOE award came a year after investors sued the company for allegedly inflating its stock price through ‘fraudulent accounting and overstated financial results.’ Ormat settled the allegations in 2012 for $3.1 million.”

Harry fvckin Reid got bribed to let these IDIOTS drill a volcano and inject cold Pacific water into it and do it with our money.

Ormat is based out of Nevada.

many of his videos has documented what appears to be evidence of a slow slide, cracks widening, this is something usgs has been trying to keep quiet, that the fissures alignment is not just a lava tube as claimed, but rather a rift opening in the land as it slides into the sea,

that same region has slid into the sea in ancient times on multiple occasions.

halturnerradio website had an article with leaked info from usgs about this up for a few days before they put it behind a paywall…

News is not reassuring:

"Geologists are also monitoring widening cracks in a number of roadways in Leilani Estates, ground zero for the ongoing eruptions.

Steve Brantley, of the USGS, said the large cracks, which have torn roads apart in some places or created gaps of 1 yard or wider, are an indication that magma is continuing to enter the rift zone.

"The rift zone is being forced apart," he said. "I think clearly it points to the potential for additional eruptive activity" in lower Puna.

Marzo, the resident, said he saw a crack on Nohea Street widen from about 3 feet on Thursday morning to about 10 feet wide later in the day. He also said that about 40 yards of the road sank."

NOT A COINCIDENCE that mere hours after lava began covering well at PGV, earthquakes increased, new fissures opened, lava began flowing voluminously at very fast velocity, sky lit up with huge eruptive clouds and fire, emergency sirens and evacuations called, and ppl began collapsing, not able to breathe.

PGV geothermal plant owned and financed by Rothschilds. Desperate cabal. Wells 8,000' deep.

Around 8/p PDT (Pacific Daylight Time), lava began covering well pad in Hawaii.

By 10/p, reports of new fissures and huge lava fountains vigorously erupting.

Lava is bright white and flowing fast.

Massive cracks appear in land and roads. Earth extremely hot. Steam, gasses, flames. Cracks deepening and widening fast.

By 11/p, Civil Defense sends out an emergency alert. EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY due to a fast moving lava flow from fissure 7. Helicopters are preparing now for air evacuations and National Guard soldiers are being dispatched to Four Corners.

Reports coming in of new road blockages, very fast lava flows, intense heat, overwhelming odors. Ppl collapsing unable to breathe. Breaking out in hives.

Man trapped is led out by drones. Helicopters unable to rescue in hot seas of flaming shooting lava.

Earthquakes increasing in size and frequency. Huge eruptions seen and heard, columns of lava shooting high in the sky. Sirens going continuously. Sky bright white and orange, sky flaming, towering eruptive clouds lit bright.

Earthquakes develop magnitude pulse.

11:15/p Magnetics go wild, huge spike, enormous upheaval.

Data from start of eruption shows nothing like this. Unprecedented.

Earthquakes are frequent.

Rivers and lakes of very fast moving lava devour entire neighborhoods.
