Almost forgot: if you have any reasonable, non trivial idea the Haiku Inc can pay you to make the development. You just have to send a proposal to the Inc ad to the development mailing list.

Thanks!

I personally don't care to support Haiku because according to the GNU project, the Haiku project it "includes some software that you're not allowed to modify. It also includes nonfree firmware blobs."

I'm curious about this, is it true?

I wish the team luck in getting past the beta state, in any case. I don't see clear direction for the project beyond R1, but it's an outside impression. What is the vision, why should we care?

This better not mean what I think it means because what the actual fuck man. Regardless, seeing nonunix OSes is always a nice thing, I'm so tired of everybody copying the same tired shit design instead of doing interesting things.

It claims to be based on BeOS, which as far as I could tell provided Unix compatibility but wasn't Unix-derived internally.

Then GNU is not Unix-derived because it is an independent implementation of Unix that wasn't derived from any Unix heritage.

"Unix-derived" referred to the design, not the source.

To be Unix means having a lineage from the old versions of Unix which was actually built from the source code. To be Unix-like is to reimplement the Unix system in a clean room implementation.

Thanks for lecturing me on what my own words meant, clearly I wouldn't know that myself.
