> How do you get a career in programming?
Program as much as possible.
Develop your CV by writing hobby programs on your own time.
Network as much as possible to develop your social skills. Email someone you admire, send messages to local software companies in your area… anything.
Save as much money as possible.
ALWAYS be on the lookout for new opportunity elsewhere. You don't know it right now but you have the power to move and work where YOU want to, provided you have enough cash. Where do you see yourself being the most happiest / most productive?
If you are going to go to University, pick wisely. Choosing a shit university / college will waste an incredible amount of your time and money. It's somewhat like a deal, you give them money, and out comes opportunities. Regardless if you go or not, your chance for success is dictated by how hard you work.
It is possible to skip university and go straight into work, provided you're self motivated enough to know when it's time to find another place that's more suited to you. Work up the ladder, make friends, shake hands, and get references to move up in the world.
But by far the greatest advice: shut the fuck up and LEARN. You don't know everything, and if you think you do, people will sense it and it will pidgeon hole you. Develop yourself as a person and you will have a greater chance to succeed in ANY field. Avoid anyone with an arrogant attitude, they clearly are not improving themselves, how can they benefit you?
Now go do something productive and don't get into the habit of circle jerking about new hippy bullshit like X.js. quantity > software quality at this stage. oh yeah, start lifting too. search up 5x5 stronglifts. you'll make it.
