What exactly is the appeal of a magic show in a world where every trick can be easily explained with literal magic?

dd718e (3)  No.316569>>316576

>>316568 (OP)

Same as in the real world: the audience doesn't know how the trick is done.

It's a world where the fact that there's an area where animals care for themselves and the weather is automatic is super spooky. I would imagine if a pony saw an object floating without a magical aura they'd freak out as well. So I can see there being some wiggle room for trying to hide how the magic was done being a fun show to watch.

Less 'how did that unicorn make those five ponies disappear?' and more 'how did that unicorn make those five ponies disappear with only a second of magic channeled through the horn?'

3f66c2 (5)  No.316576>>316585

>>316569

But they do. One of them casts a spell with their literally magic horn and poof Trixie is teleported out of the box. There's no trick, it's just a magic kindergarten demonstration.

3f66c2 (5)  No.316577

The way Trixie's magic show worked in her first appearance would have made for actually compelling entertainment. It was just an outright show of skill, like singing a song. She got up on stage and just made pretty lights and told interesting stories, no tricks or anything because the obvious answer to any and all tricks is "actual magic". And of course it would have been funny to watch her wreck the shit out of locals who got up on stage to challenge her.

I assume she's just showing off her skill the same way people watch sports competitions even though everyone knows that the secret to sports is exercise.

What's funny about that image is that in a lot of B roll superhero films, the first thing the hero does when he gets his powers is put on a magic show.

>One of them casts a spell with their literally magic horn

But she didn't do that during the trick. Trixie just appeared behind the crowd in a puff of smoke. No spell, no horn glow.

3f66c2 (5)  No.316598>>316629

>>316585

That just means Trixie is the one who cast the spell, from inside the trunk where you can't see the horn glow.

Most unicorns aren't that good at magic. Therefore, magic can still be impressive in the same way that any skill can be impressive.

THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT

dd718e (3)  No.316629

>>316598

No one heard her do that, even though teleportation makes noise. Nor does that explain how the audience volunteer ended up in the box.

And not that the audience knows this, but Trixie couldn't pull off a teleportation spell to save her life.

93089e (1)  No.316634

>>316570

This is my theory too. It must be mostly to amaze unicorns who don't know how Trixie does her tricks without using the magic everyone knows. A pony teleporting away isn't that big deal, but a pony simply disappearing in a puff of smoke is as amazing in Equestria as it is on Earth.
