True, the technology level is generally somewhat inconsistent. I remember seeing candles and firefly lamps used for illumination. But in Season 2 it is shown that they have a hydroelectric plant and flashlights.

>I always wanted the default technology of the show to be a bit medieval in nature; but since this is a whimsical, non-serious show, I felt there was plenty of wiggle room. I think ultimately it was just my personal comfort level in each individual story. If it screwed up the story to get too technical about how primitive the technology was, it wasn’t worth it. So, if we needed cameras, I just wanted those cameras to be relatively workable to a creature with no fingers. And if we absolutely positively HAD to have an electrical appliance (which we often did), I just told myself that it was enchanted by some magical unicorn mechanic at some point. However, I insisted that such an attitude was to be considered only as a last creative resort - don’t use a light switch when you could use a candle, just because you’re feeling lazy. Don’t draw a hoof unnaturally and awkwardly wrapped around an umbrella because you don’t feel like thinking about it a little more. Overall, though, it was definitely not a strict approach - and it’s hardly consistent. Humor and ease of storytelling took precedence over technicality.

Trains seem to be the most obvious inconsistency. It's been a while since I saw season 1 so my memory's probably faulty here, but I could swear within the exact same season there was a train that worked normally. That can be handwaved away by considering that particular train to be broken, though even then why have the broken engine attached and not just pull the passenger cars directly?

They only had the horse-drawn train in Season 1. After that, the Friendship Express toy was introduced, and the show canon had to change to match the toy canon.

This is the worst possible outcome.

I assume since the Crusaders tried to set the two up that they must be in the same age demographic. Part of the criteria in their song was avoid avoiding stallions that were too old or young for cheerilee. Pony 80s didn't have to be 30-40 years ago like our 80s did. Pones live in a timeless fantasyland after all. Their 80s could have been twenty or so years before the episode and no more.

It's the way it has to be. The toys are the primary product, the show exists to advertise them.

Big Mac, barring any simple "he's big for his age" explanation, does seem to be a lot older than the others. He looks to be about the mane six's age, maybe a little younger when Applejack was a little filly without a cutie mark, and looks notably older than that when she had a cutie mark and was making backroom deals.

The show is written by gen x. Of course there's 80s nostalgia

Also, didn't she do a morning workout in those clothes once before? It ends with her making faces at the babies
