Finally some bug love in the show; it's been too long.
Written by… Mike Vogel.
Fuck.
I'll be honest, though, I'm pretty much having that reaction to every current writer on the staff. It's saddening to know that the series is coming to an end within a year or so and will more than likely not get the send-off it deserves simply because anyone that could do it justice have either already left or have no interest in ponies.
Most have probably seen this one already as evidenced by the leak threads, so not a lot of surprises for many of you. This episode broke last week's leak record, having been not only leaked in pre-production form, but broadcast on foreign television channels before the airdate on two separate occasions.
This is the last episode before the midseason hiatus, episodes should recommence at the end of the Summer. With no more leaks forthcoming and hopefully those damn Canucks, britbongs and finns getting their TV stations in order, we should be looking at a bit more focused episode discussion. and, just maybe, some more focused episodes.
Enjoy!

IT'S STILL CENSORED WEW
Also again, shit episode.
<mane six are all retarded and can't notice the most obvious signs that the animated trees aren't actually their friends
<they all infight more easily than when under severe manipulation from discord
<they could be defeated just by being tricked
<they don't even figure it out in the end
<just make up and move on
<the ending is censored
<the mean six don't even get a chance to become a worthwhile plot point or villains that would have any meaningful existence
>evil twili is actually kind of cute (but simultaneously pretty jewy)
The only full on positive is the possibility that the events at the tree of harmony MIGHT, MIGHT have story significance for the finale like the similarly pointless-seeming breezies episode did for S4's finale. Thanks to some nigger adding the spoiler description to S8E26 on IMDB I know it's going to actually be an adventure episode so that's possible. Fuck man, every season I've seen so far (over halfway through S6, though I've seen the end of S7) has had at least some good in it. I've seen none of this in S8 so far. Every episode is bad. Even the "best" ones so far have been at best around the level of the prior seasons' episodes that weren't good, but weren't terrible, just meandering, kind of there.

The evil twilight gets melted a bit more. Notice that the scene just has her hang there in place as nothing happens in the censored version.

It was an okay episode. I'll take it over school ones any day. There was a lot of hectic action that carried a semblance of adventure, all of the mane 6 got some screen time, and the villain accomplished something for the season finale. Also meme faces galore (sometimes that can be considered a plus).
One must be wary not to set one's expectations too high for the show. It's a foregone conclusion that the villain(s) will be defeated and the day saved in the end. I'm just happy to get some more Chrysalis and not see her defeated by some outrageous deus ex machina.

I would say that when they discovered that they had an unexpected hit on their hands they did what any executive would do: take the little passion project, model it against the financial expectations of a highly profitable property, and alter it to fit the model and thus maximize its profit potential. Corporate "efficiency" killed the Golden Goose.

Can we all just take a second and… appreciate, for lack of a better word just how horrifying this ending actually was? I mean, you have 6 ponies who were literally born yesterday up and murdered by the Tree of Harmony. What the Hell Tree? You have an Element of Generosity and an Element of Kindness, I don't remember an Element of Does-Harmony-Have-To-Choke-A-Bitch however.
And sure, they were made to be evil, but this is a world where the literal incarnation of Chaos can be convinced to be nice. Why were they never given the chance? Because they are copies, and copies aren't real people; this tends to happen in fiction it seems. Like the too many Pinkie Pies from the eponymous episode, the writers had to just get rid of them or risk complicating things. If that means murder then so be it. Just ignore the fact that the Mean six are clearly sentient individuals with their own personalities and hopes and dreams.
And I don't think the writers even noticed that the episode end with straight up murder. That's the part that get's me. The last time the dropped the ball this hard was when they wrote an episode about Trixie using threats of suicide to emotionally blackmail Starlight Glimmer into being "friends" with her. The mane 6 of course never realize what happened, and all that we are left with is pointless tragedy.

It still bothers me how much this season is different from the past ones. Just one season ago, we had The Perfect Pear as the midpoint, and here it's like a bad fanfiction story made in SFM. We had huge adventure episodes for premieres and finales, and now it's opening a school and having a guy that wants Equestria for Equestrians as the "bad guy". What a mess.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed the strange degrees of quality, especially throughout the past few seasons. Perfect Pear was almost a masterpiece, especially compared to this new season.

I blame the new School of Friendship and the student characters, every episode that involves them are pretty awful. Sometimes I think the writers are just clueless as we are on what purpose the new addition to the show serves, whereas the writers have probably many seasons to thoroughly consider how they want to tackle the episode for Applejack's parents.

Accurate to how women treat suicide IRL. Pick a shitty or convoluted method and subconsciously hope to get saved for guaranteed attention, but don't actually plan out what to do if it they end up with a slow, painful death. A stallion would've just hiked to the dragon lands and jumped in the lava.

Not wrong. I'd hand the blame specifically to the edgelords making shitty clones of Crookedtrees' dark and evocative Party of One mane Pinkamena. Especially the faggots that conflated her with Cupcakes poofy maned Ponka and then spread their exclusively for shock value trash everywhere and co-opted the subfandom. It could have been Trees' too but if it was I don't even care to place blame because golden era fandom beats modern show every fucking time and it was worth it.
