Weren't things so much better back when they sent letters to Princess Celestia? Or was the friendship journal superior?

What would you give to return to the childish simplicity of season 1 & 2 /pone/.

Hard Mode: Don't be gay and sentimental.

Nightmare Mode: Come up with a better way to get a moral across, without letters and journals.

>Come up with a better way to get a moral across, without letters and journals.

you could just treat the audience like they have brains and not just tell them whatever lesson you want them to take away. If you can't write an aesop without explicitly saying the moral, you're doing it wrong.

I dunno, I was pretty stupid as a kid and never picked up on the morals.

483cf5  No.312144

>>312143

In a related vein, the writers seemed a lot less certain of what the moral was when they didn't have to spell it out.

f1a1a1  No.312154

Serious mode: NO fucking morals. You suck at it anyway.

Bring back Lauren Faust.

Give her wartime powers on the level of what Hitler enjoyed.

Watch things get better.

The letter format existed at a time when the show was good, though I wouldn't exactly label it "childish simplicity". That's more the modern seasons where the stories are simpler and dumber.

0de0ab  No.312171

>>312158

This might have been a solution at some point, but she has gotten bluepilled so hard almost noone in the industry can work with her any more, since those early seasons.

If she was given full control over the show now, I doubt she would improve it.

e0b2c4  No.312176

>>312171

Studios will not work with her, because she keeps trying to tell stories instead of optimising the product for profit according to established models. Her former colleagues are probably still upset with her for her public reaction to EqG. Calling that shit what it was can not have been popular with the remaining show creators. Also, she was always a feminist. There is nothing about her ideology that changed.

I like the letters to Celestia and kinda miss them. Yeah, sitting down at the end of the episode to talk about what you learned is cheesy and cliche, but given the current crop of writers, it's absolutely necessary. Making their character talk about what they learned forces the writer to come up with a unifying theme, so they're not bumbling around aimlessly for 23 minutes. It also makes them start every episode with an eye towards character growth, thinking about how and why a character will grow and become better this episode. It sometimes seems like these morons in charge forget that, and you gotta beat them over the head with an episode summary to remember what's up.

This but also bring back Hitler.

I also think in general that they should have kept most of the things they did in order to have an Educational/Informative rating, as the first season had.

Some of those regulations arguably would dumb down some shows, but in this case, they actually kept it at a certain level of quality.

This would have also held at bay some of the utterly shitty fan pandering that has more or less dominated the show lately.

>given the current crop of writers, it's absolutely necessary

Let's not pretend that the older writers were any better on that count. "Feeling Pinkie Keen," "The Mysterious Mare Do Well," "Over a Barrel," "The Last Roundup," and probably others that I cannot remember at the moment had nonsensical lessons. Then there were a bunch of episodes that never bothered with morals at all.

2048cd  No.312224

>>312144 (checked)

Maybe because the episodes where poorly written and had to give the audience a map and a flashlight to find the fucking point

>>312222 (holy fucking digits)

everyone has different opinions on writters and ep's style tho it's true some are fucking awful by concensus

the problem is that, at the start they tried to make every episode with a moral, then they shifted more ot slice of life, and I think that happened cause they lacked the directive management that faust once where. It's good that different writters give their two cents but not to let them dictate the outcome of the story.

But that comes from the fact that is a cartoon that came from selling cartoons, giving total directive freedom to one person was never the plan.

The SJWs on RatWiki agree.

That was sort of my point. The irrational rage against this specific episode, simply because it even hinted at the possibility of a deity or even something beyond rational explanation, threw euphorics into an absolute rage.

The fuck are you talking about? The show had actual deities back then. Seriously, though, that episode was shit.

But how? How would that piss off fedoras? Luna and Celestia are literally fucking deities.

RatWiki is a bunch of SJW wackos. The way they think is really not comprehensible. It certainly isn't rational.
