Don't use the Tirek battle as an example of something that is "in character" for this show. Most people outside of reddit will be willing to admit that that episode was a significant departure from what the show was originally. The Friendship School story is as well, but for a much different reason. People started watching this show because it was a comfy SoL about cute ponies doing cute things, not because of dramatic violence and real-world politics.

Agreed, 100%. That Tirek battle was was so over the top that it was cringy; if I want to see that that level of fantasy violence, I'll watch Dragon Ball Z. IMO, the best season finale is still "The Best Night Ever", slice-of-life silliness without any forced "epic" battles to save the world for the umpteenth time. The Friendship School of the current season is more in line with what drew a lot of us originally here, forced diversity politics aside (although one does have to wonder why there aren't any diamond dogs, mules, donkeys, or buffaloes enrolled, considering they ALREADY LIVE in Equestria).

And children's entertainment being what it is, the franchise has changed hands, a bunch. Current captains like the multicultural drift in hopes it will satisfy viewers deepest needs. Said captains have their deepest needs pretty close to met because they're multi-millionaires, and have no ability to relate to the normies who stilll live in their grandmother's basement.

Epic battles with tiny horses have always been shit, because the idea is ridiculous. Who is actually going to buy that the cutsie little pastel ponies who make dresses and cupcakes are a magical Delta Force? Faust's ponies faint when they see a bunch of rabbits hop into town. They gasp in shock at the idea that their fore bearers could ever have been divided by hatred and mistrust. They are too afraid of dragons to actually compile any information about them.

Sure the original plan was for them to go on dangerous adventures, but the Six was never going to be a band of D&D murder hobos. They were supposed to overcome trials with their own unique and creative methods like Fluttershy did with the dragon and Pinkie Pie did with the parasprites. Running to battle while chargin their lazers was not the plan. It's no coincidence that that shit only began when Faust was already out the door and Renzetti was discussing a contract with Disney.

If the show had been reduced to nothing but battles and action, you'd have a point. But it happened one time. And in that one time, it was pretty fun. And in the end, that battle was a setup for the ponies to ultimately defeat Tirek using the lessons about friendship they had learned and taught throughout the season, and also to set up some very simple symbolism wherein literally all the magic in the world turns out to be no match for one strong friendship. It was definitely leagues better than the meaningless mushy bullshit that's passed for most of the "adventure" episodes in the more recent seasons.

That is hilarious, I thought /co/ and everyone else watched the show (me included) especially because we didn't get mindless G3 garbage of ponies doing dumb things. We were avid animation watchers and got into it with the hopes it will get better, not worse. We thought that the veterans are Cartoonnetwork were going to be given more free reign and the cartoon show could only evolve from there.

We joined in because we thought Hasbro had changed and allowed experts to manage their franchise. Apparently reluctantly tried a little till the producers and executives got pissed off that the veterans sitting in the executive producer seats were ruining their secret clubhouse for retards and so they took over the helm, ruining their own franchise.

We watched it because the characters seemed to have some brains in them and were nice to look at, compared to the garbage we kept getting since 2008 and since 2012.

But the slice of life content and children elements kept pushing it down, making it a boring 3 or 6 out of 10 cartoon show. Hasbro couldn't stop micromanaging even when they supposedly said they were more relaxed and easygoing.

Despite the decent soundtrack, voice acting, storyboarding, art style and animation, the plots and execution lacked immensely compared to other slice of life shows. Stuff like Party of One while being refreshing with some things, utterly lacked content compared to other "secret birthday party" episodes of other cartoon shows.

As for seasons 2-8, absolutely garbage. Nothing but stupidity at its finest in which the characters are acting like retards because it is the current year, exactly, exactly what I was trying to get away from and find refugee in. So much for that. It's like watching MLP trying to be Regular Show, but even more painfully dumb and more dishonest.
