This is actually an insight into coat genetics. Imagine that the striped parts were brown and you habe a perfectly normal brown amd white horse. The fact that this mixed horse has patches of stripes instead of being faintly striped all over indicated that there is one locus (group of genes) that controls the entire striping process and that it behaves like and is perfectly interchangeable with normal coat genes. You can create all those complex stripes by inserting one fucking line of code. Also this means that horses can have multiple regions capable of accepting different textures, and that these textures can be individually packaged and moved around with minimal effort.
