I highly doubt anything as great will ever come up again, as mainstream media has been constantly getting dumber and dumber to the point that they must be doing it on purpose. And I know for absolute certain that it won't be an anime, because no matter how nice the visual style is, the constant emasculated male characters, eternal highschools and screaming little girls is just too weeaboo to enjoy.

This. There have always been surprising amount of people who haven't watched the show in ages but stay because the culture around it has grown big enough to support itself.
Projects like >>301981 would be great for creating new "canons" without Hasbro. Fallout Equestria is already a great example of a consistent setting that has started sprouting its own spinoffs. The main problem is finding new animators, as the internet culture in general both inside and outside the fandom has been systematically stiffled by sites like Youtube and 4chan, and getting people off their asses to do something has been getting rarer and rarer. Apparently Chinese could do animation for cheap, but it would need someone who knows money to handle that.
