Recently I came across this artwork by the-sixthleafclover that I thought would make for an excellent wallpaper for my dual monitor setup.
Unfortunately, the image resolution is 2500x698 and scaling it to fit two 1080p monitors would introduce unacceptable pixelations through traditional methods, so I thought to try a program I came across ages ago called Waifu2x, which scales and/or denoises images using pre-trained neural networks and black magic.
Anyway, I was thoroughly impressed with the result and wish to share this program with you guys, on the off chance that some of you faced similar conundrums when choosing wallpapers.
The first image is the original, followed by one upscaled in photoshop and one with Waifu2x, and lastly a screenshot of the settings I used. I recommend comparing the two by opening them in separate tabs and switching between them when enlarged to 100%.

I know it's a hassle, but signing up for a Nvidia dev account is free.
Also you could still use CUDA to accelerate processing without cuDNN. And since it only shaves a second or two per image, I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle unless you plan to do large batches.

I think mega allows for file sizes above 200mb or you could compress it into an archive with 7zip to lower the size.

The original had a servant in the dark with an unreadable expression. Presumably he is pushing the carefree lady on the swing. It was a subtle dig at the aristocracy in that it insinuated that their pleasures are had at the expense of the faceless multitudes that toil in the shadow. The brilliance of the piece is that the message is hidden within a commissioned rococo piece that was intended to celebrate the good life.

For the first image, I experimented with scaling it in two separate passes, with denoise set to level 3.
Generally, I find the program works best between scalings of 1.5x to 2x. Any higher and you'll get more and more noticeable defects.

The aesthetic is definitely deliberate. I darkened the lines and scaled up to the "nearest neighbor" in photoshop. I think it looks better. But if you want it smooth and sharp, you'll have to redraw it yourself.
