Paraphrasing of scripture is a common rhetorical technique used in the Bible. Raising sophistical objections designed to inhibit rhetorical communication severely irritated more than one Biblical character. It is not clever to impute heretical meanings by nitpicking (woman vs wife) or (work vs toil), but obnoxious.
My diction was deliberate:
1. At the time of the story, there were only two humans, and thus the names for wife and husband did not exist. "Man" and "woman" fits the theme of feminism vs patriarchy.
2. "Work" is used to emphasize the distinction between "going to work" and staying home.
For those who wish to learn how to read in context, standardized test prep books teach this valuable objective skill. It corrects many sophistical errors of the scribes and the pharisees.
The Bible is obviously corrupted by conflicting agendas, some of them evil. As the Bible grows increasingly obsolete in the face of the dawning new age, its adherents retreat into fortresses of rigid doctrinal illiteracy, sacrificing mental flexibility in favor of memorizing and reiterating orthodoxy, in a desperate attempt to keep their breeders committed, as bonobophile wolves feast on their hapless flock. The result is that I can find no Christian right-wing forum that will hear me interpret the deeper truths of Genesis – a pity. Good luck going the way of the Mormon.
