Support your local farmers markets and buy food directly from the sources, wholesale to save some money and stockup. Costco or Sams Club is good for buying bulk foods too. Canned food lasts longest, if you buy bagged foods make sure they're in secure totes to prevent bug infestation and rodents.

As for planning for SHTF/TEOTWAWKI events: Get out of the cities if you can afford to. If you can't, learn and prepare a strategy to bug-out *before* SHTF, you may need to invest in an RV, buy physically printed topological maps of your State so you know all the backroads to exit the city (do not rely on GPS!), you would not want to be caught up in a jammed - and likely military blockaded - highway when they shut off the grid and comms during crisis. Have a firearm for self-defense, make sure you can shoot a target with it. Anyway, good luck. Prepping really should have been on the minds of Americans at least a decade ago. Those that are most prepared have long left the cities for greener pastures already, having chickens and other livestock, gardens, greenhouses, know how to hunt/trap/fish/butcher, etc.
