UPDATE: all Dish Network, Boost Mobile & Boost Infinite customers are getting 100% FREE UNLIMITED SERVICE

Dish Network said a cybersecurity incident caused an internal outage that started Thursday and has stretched over several days impacting the company’s communications and customer-facing websites, with certain corporate IT data taken.

Dish first mentioned an internal systems outage last week during its quarterly earnings call, but had not disclosed the cause of the issue or said whether any information was compromised. The new disclosures came in a Tuesday, February 28, filing with the SEC.

In an 8-K, Dish said after the initial incident on February 23, it employed cybersecurity experts and outside advisors to evaluate the situation. Since then, Dish “has determined that the outage was due to a cyber-security incident and notified appropriate law enforcement authorities.”

According to the filing, on Monday, February 27, Dish “became aware that certain data was extracted from the Corporation’s IT systems as part of this incident.” It went on to say that it’s possible the investigation “will reveal that the extracted data includes personal information.”

Dish is continuing to investigate the extent of the incident with the assistance of third-party experts and advisors, with assessment of the impact ongoing. The type of data, including whether it involved customer or employee information, was not disclosed.

In a statement shared with Fierce, Dish said "The security of our customers' data is important to us, and if we learn that information was compromised, we'll take the appropriate steps and let any impacted customers know."

Dish delivers pay TV services via satellite and virtual MVPD Sling TV, as well as MVNO wireless service through its Boost Mobile brand as it also builds out a greenfield 5G network. Dish’s TV, wireless and data services were not disrupted from the outage, but its internal communications, customer call centers and internet sites have been impacted.

The Dish spokesperson noted customers have had trouble with account access and reaching call centers, and that while progress is being made it will still take time to resolve the issue.

"As a result of this incident, many of our customers are having trouble reaching our service desks, accessing their accounts, and making payments. We’re making progress on the customer service front every day, including ramping up our call capacity, but it will take a little time before things are fully restored," the Dish spokesperson stated.

Dish “is actively engaged in restoring the affected systems and is making steady progress,” the 8-K stated.

Dish previously hadn't shared a ton of information about the incident, which was first mentioned by Dish CEO Erik Carlson last Thursday on the company’s fourth quarter earnings call. On Monday afternoon, Dish had shared a statement saying an investigation was underway and that the incident affected internal telephony and IT systems.

Customer-facing websites including BoostMobile.com, BoostInfinite.com, and Dish.com were down for a period of time, with the two latter still showing messages as of Wednesday that it's experiencing an internal systems issue.

The Verge obtained an internal memo from Carlson sent to Dish employees Tuesday morning, with the outlet reporting the chief executive as saying the company is “working around the clock to understand the issue and restore affected systems as quickly as possible” though it has “limited information at this time.”

'MY COMMENT:

I used to be on Metro PCS prepaid phone service, and I was extremely happy with my service… then, MetroPCS got bought out by T-Mobile, and it becameMetro by T-Mobile

At first, the service was just as good as before the corporate takeover, but eventually things started to get a little wishy-washy, and their customer service went downhill…

Boost Mobile was garbage back in the day, back when it was owned by Virgin Mobile…

But when DISH Network bought Boost Mobile, things went even farther downhill…

However, Dish Network reinvented Boost, and they developed it into a premium post-paid service called BOOST INFINITE…

after carefully researching it, I made the decision to switch from Metro by T-Mobile to Boost Infinite, owned by Dish Network….

I set up a boost infinite account under the name Johnny Neptune.

Boost Infinite gives you COMPLETELY UNLIMITED 5G HIGH SPEED for only $25 per month.

oddly enough, my billing date was on the 23rd of each month

and last Thursday, Feb 23rd, I called to pay my $25 bill with a debit card under the name JOHNNY NEPTUNE (it's a burner card)

and ironically enough, that's the same day the system went down.

There was no way to get through to customer service by dialing 611 or going to a website or using an app or anything.. the entire customer service and it base was frozen.

So the next call I made was to Dish Network customer service, and I got the same thing.. Dish Network was frozen, and they were unable to address any customer service issues…

Of course the first thing that crossed my mind was a ransomware attack

(the 2nd thing that crossed my mind was having my JOHNNY NEPTUNE debit card replaced with all new numbers & exp dates & CCV, which I did immediately)

that entire day (Feb 23rd) the system was unreachable… when a customer tried calling customer service, all they got was a busy signal…

that evening at midnight, my service was suspended due to my inability to pay online, in-app, or by phone

HOWEVER: the next morning at 6 AM my phone was back on.

ALL DISH NETWORK, BOOST MOBILE & BOOST INFINITE CUSTOMERS ARE RECEIVINGFREE SERVICE INDEFINITELY

so…… now they are finally admitting it was a ransomware attack

and my personal info may have been taken….

LOL MYFAKEPERSONAL INFO

all that info is false, my name, age, DOB, address…… it's ALL fake

my debit card info?

well, that's fake, too

my name ISN'T Neptune (duhh)

and the debit card numbers are already null & void

So if anybody tries using my info taken from the ransomware attack, ITS ALL FAKE

And for the foreseeable future I'm just sitting here getting unlimited lightning fast 5G service absolutely free

Jerry went to a Tri-Cities White Trashington FLEA MARKET and bought a bootleg LG Phone Back in 2017

(but because he was a welfare recipient eating on EBT food stamps, he couldn't afford $50 a month for a phone line, and rely solely on Wi-Fi and texting apps, like a third world scumbag underneath a bridge)

I felt sorry for him

This was back before he decided to make threats of Civil War violence against me, and I had not yet reached the point where I needed to punish him for his inability to control his emotions.

I was beingSO COOLthat I offered to add a line to my family plan, andlet him have phone service for FREE!!

Unfortunately for Jerry, when he went to his local Tri-Cities Metro dealer, they looked at his phone, tried installing a Metro SIM Card, and discovered he had purchased a bootleg FAKE LG PHONE

Jerry will tell you all kinds of fake bullshit about me…

he will try to convince you that I'm a miserable liar

HES THE LIAR!!!

I'm actually the only person who felt sorry for Jerry

I empathised with him…

he was my age, taking care of his two daughters on his own. he is sick, which is why he pretends to be "unable to work" (but then he lies and says he's completely healthy, but avoids the subject of not having a job)

of course, since he's living on WELFARE TAXPAYER HANDOUTS, he couldn't afford to feed his teo daughters, so he had to apply for EBT FOOD STAMPS

duhhh…. of course he did

he couldn't even afford a measly $50 for phone service…

I genuinely like jerry, believe it or not

Even though he's a duplicitous hypocritical coward, I still genuinely like him as a human being

and I FELT SORRY FOR HIM

I wanted to help him somehow, because I figured one of these days he might need to get in touch with his daughter's during an emergency, so I figured I would be his benefactor and Supply him with one year of phone service

( I already had a family plan, and by adding a fourth line, it would have only cost me $10 a month )

Unfortunately, Jerry purchased a piece of shit bootleg Chinese knockoff imitation LG phone….

So even though we tried and tried, we were unable to activate his phone and add it to my family plan so he could have free phone service…

I AM STILL WILLING TO GET JERRY A FREE PHONE, WITH FREE UNLIMITED SERVICE

But not until he asks me politely
