Same thing happened when the original Tarrant thread was posted. I was browsing 8chan, switched over to 4chan to find 3 or 4 threads about it, then went back to 8 chan and had to refresh the catalog a bunch of times before it popped into view. I had it sorted by creation date too, so it's not like it was getting bumped down the page or anything.

This. Due to 8kun having many, many enemies and being kicked off by cloudflare, 8kun was made a huge distributed system with many servers. The core board software however is based on the same old-fashioned PHP code that it was always based on. And CM is still fiddling with stuff too to mitigate ddos attacks and bring back missing features. Some errors are to be expected. This particular problem is probably caused by some of the nodes of 8kun's network being out of sync. So the thread may be available on some nodes, others have gotten out of sync and haven't heard of the thread, so it's missing. If you wait a little they are back in sync and the thread is visible. And of course it's pretty random which node you land on, so things might keep disappearing until the very last node has synced it.

Applying a more strict synchronisation strategy that syncs the changes to all nodes before commiting it as a valid change, i.e. only showing something once it is synced everywhere would probably be much too slow and inefficient with PHP and MySQL.

MySQL is not natively built to be distributed, the cluster functionality was added much, much later and if you want a system that is really good at that stuff you'd have to switch to a more modern DB. And that would probably be a huge clusterfuck given the code quality of infinity/openIB. So much hardcoded stuff, so much chaos, you really wouldn't want to change the underlying DB without rewriting, or even having to rewrite the whole application.
