I was hoping they'd spite BBC and call it 6th Gear or Next Gear. Clarkson is like 55 right? How much longer would he want to do it for?
5 years

Are people really hyped for it? I mean, outside of normalfags not interested in cars, just interested in comedy with big engines?
I still enjoyed TG but it was getting quite stale. Apart from the specials that still had a bit of spice, the show itself settled in a steady rhythm of low risk entertainment. It made me think of what CoD has become, high budget entertainment for the masses, taking minimal risks with its formula (and in both cases, you could argue it's because they nailed it) and just werks.
Also it's literally an advert for Amazon Prime

The challenges were always great but the regular segments were a mixed bag and the constant shaky cam of later seasons really began to wear fucking thin. The boys were always best when unscripted, I hope they don't just carry on with the same old formula but instead focus on their strengths.

I don't think you understand it. The man loves cars. The only thing he knows how to do in life is be a motoring journalist.
He dropped out of university and did it to make ends meet, then got stuck doing it because he was hooked on new cars every day.
I'll be glad when they come back without the BBC camera work shitting over the cars.

Well if it helps, Bezos has given them 4x the budget that BBC gave them in days of yore. They don't have to force episodes out anymore, they've had an extra year to brainstorm and make what they actually want to make.

Watching the last ep that aired with Hammond and May, you could really tell they didn't even want to be there. I like that some people have some loyalty to their friends.
I wonder if they'll get rid of the set and remove everything they did for the show. I'd take that Jag, Clarkson made into a train.

There's still a certain chance they'll settle for whatever sells because there's always someone paying.
At least this probably means no more british stars doing pointless PR.

It was, but it was pretty fun. The bits where they drive felt like it was still Top Gear, in fact it feels like Top Gear. Shame they can't use the Stig anymore.

How many episodes of GT did you watch? It felt quite a bit less scripted toward the second half of the season.
>new Top Gear
>good
Chris Harris and Sabine Schmitz are the only ones who actually belong on the show. Rory Reid is a token black guy, Chris Evans is a fucking cunt, and Matt LeBlanc is American - he in particular doesn't belong. It's no wonder viewership dropped.
American Top Gear didn't catch on, not necessarily because the content wasn't as good, but because it wasn't Hammond, May and Clarkson presenting it. Those three have chemistry and experience that no other team of presenters have, and it's the reason they are so much more successful.

>Genuinely expecting an unrefined, brand new show with a veteran cast to be better than an almost perfected formula with expendable crew
Grand Tour only just finished its first season. I don't know if you were watching the original show back when it first started but a fucking shitton changed between S1 and say, S5. Jason Dawe went, the focus on normal, everyday cars was gradually supplanted by performance vehicles, the skits and sequences became more comedic and the initially clean show as a whole began to push the boundaries in terms of controversy. Watch an episode of S1 TG sometime, you'll immediately notice the jarring difference in comparison to the majority of its run.
What BBC is doing is protecting its IP until it fades into obscurity, where it can sit on it until a successful revival is augmented. The critical ratings may have improved from S23, but you cannot engineer a bond between a group of people like the Old New TG did. They will keep changing cast, just like the 1977 series did. More people watched the show for the banter and stunts than the cars, and it definitely shows as the viewer ratings continue to fall down the tubes.
On a second, more controversial thought, I didn't think BBC's Robot Wars revival was that good either. The new series of Battlebots was a lot better IMHO. All the good robots fucking broke after lightly tapping the wall once, and the boring flippers which got the shit kicked out of them ending up winning.

I must live under a rock that I didn't know Robot Wars and BattleBots came back. I loved BattleBots when I was younger.
TG is dead and never coming back.I'd watch more TGT, I do hope they stop that celebrity bit, but I felt they beat it into the ground. I do think it's just them venting how much they hated doing it on TG though.

Interesting, I never thought about it this way. I always thought they wanted to do it but avoided it to not give more lawsuit ammo to the BBC. Your theory makes a little more sense.
