Mechanic was telling me that with Mycarly odb programming, he (or I) can change the Adaptation and/or modify the air to fuel ratio to get much more mpg out of the car. He said that on 2019 lexus nx300h it can be simply programmed and done (no parts and work needed) and undone when warranty service is needed (or smog). Is this true?

I should have added : if it is true, how much more mpg can I get and are there pitfalls to this besides the obvious (legality issues and damage to vehicle due to user error)? Is this a reputable dependable company (as they do have several fees on top of the device itself) or should a different one be used (if one exists)?

>Literally the sole focus of carmaking has become fuel economy and emissions

>I think I can get better mpg with a computer and weekend than entire teams of engineers using cutting edge technology working full time

You can get more power, better handling, quicker stops, louder exhaust, all sorts of things with aftermarket. But I sincerely doubt you can beat the autistic devotion modern carmakers have to MPG

Unless car makers are in cahoots with oil oligarchs to extract the most profit from us as possible. Seems likely based on history and corporate thirst for profit at all costs.

Yeah, you can lean out your air fuel mixture. You'll get better mpg, but also worse performance, worse cold starts, worse reliability due to high temps and knocking, etc.

You really want better mpg you're better off shedding weight. An actual remap will give you negligible mpg improvements.

Remember the shitstorm VW caused by them cheating on the environut test so they could get better fuel economy since the environut standards would result in WORSE fuel economy if they went along with it?

It is NOT true. That's not how obd devices work.

You'll be able to read dtc and live data as well as configure settings and code for options, but engine mapping is not something you can change on a whim.
