I think Tobacco produces a unique sound but it definitely feels like it's missing something. The stuff he's done solo and with Black Moth Super Rainbow sounds nice but lacks the substance needed to make it sound like something genuine and exciting. Malibu Ken turned out to be a great collaboration, because Tobacco's production complimented Aesop Rock and vice versa.

gotta disagree here mandem
Electra Heart and The Family Jewels are pop masterpieces to me, I feel she really came into her own on Electra Heart. Wish I could say I loved Froot as much and if im honest mate ive not even gotten around to her latest release.
I'm a little tired but my point is you should really give Electra Heart and/or The Family Jewels a go.

Fucking Enthring. The first part of Caverns is so good, but then the track just loses momentum from there and doesn't ever quite regain it, leaving me longing for a better song. Are their releases after The Grim Tales of the Elder any good, and where can I get them?

Talented musician, multi instrumentalist, decent voice with an insane range, never wrote anything as impact as someone with his talent should be able to. Instead he writes shitty poprock for teenage girls

Extremely talented bassist, was to Metallica's bass what Brian Johnson was to AC/DC's vocals, and saved the band from almost certain doom. They repaid him by basically muting his channel on AJFA, forcing him to live in Cliff Burton's shadow the whole 15 years he spent with the band, and had James Hetfield shit on his passion project until he left out of frustration.

One of my favorite musicians, and was just as, if not more, important to the unique sound of Wall of Voodoo as Stan Ridgway's vocals, but Stan usually gets all the credit (Toddintheshadows probably didn't help much either, he doesn't even name another member in the band in his retrospective). He had a very stiff vocal delivery but the few songs he provided vocals to with his Department of Crooks band showed some promise. He didn't go full solo until shortly before his death, and by that time he was suffering from liver failure, he had a bad drinking problem that Concrete Blonde's "Joey" was actually written about (could have put that in your video, Todd). I think he could have done better things if Stan hadn't gotten all the credit, and if the albums with their second singer had been successful I think they would have lasted longer as a band.
Fun Fact: In his posthumous album's liner notes, Stan is the only former WoV member that does not receive a "Special Thanks", I found that rather sad.

Genghis Tron's work is probably the peak of cybergrind, but the manic energy that really drove their work were always kneecapped by slower tracks that lacked tension, texture, or variety. It's a shame, because it's such an interesting genre mix that no one else really seems interested in furthering.
