I suppose since no one else is making a thread.

Anybody getting anything? Any bands playing at your stores? Might look for the Kevin Shields/Brian Eno collab

Record Store Day is a marketing gimmick that floods vinyl pressing factories with meaningless bullshit in such a way that independent musicians and small labels have a 4-month wait in order to get anything done while major labels can just pay big bucks to do another Abbey Road pressing and make tons from it because it just happened to be a particular day of the year. Fuck that.

 No.92508

Why the fuck do people buy records? The sound quality is objectively worse than other forms of physical media like CD and it can't hold a candle to lossless digital formats like FLAC.

> The sound quality is objectively worse

I think a lot of people view that as a selling point despite the fact that that only makes a difference when you buy a $15-$20 used record in decent condition from a hole in the wall used record store where they actually might carry some noteworthy records, as opposed to spending $35 on a brand new record from any current top 40 artist. I buy them because I like the packaging or because they're from a largely out of print artist that I really like.

Bottom line, when it comes to vinyl records always go used, otherwise you're likely being ripped off.

maybe the independent musicians and small labels should get together and start their own pressing factory

And refuse business from big labels? Isn't that illegal? Otherwise they would have done it already.

OP here, went and saw some bands play and shit. Pretty good atmosphere. Ended up getting wu-tang on tape since it looked cool.

Thanks for roasting me you yobs.

well, then they'd at least get money from the printing business

It would solve absolutely nothing about the situation.

Vinyl pressings are much more expensive now to make with the advent of much more cost effective formats. I can't imagine it being a lucrative move to set up your own printing company to basically produce collector's items in a limited quantity.
