6564a4 No.377487

If anyone here feels like replaying the VN for Monster Girl Quest, another person and I have just finished work on a remastered version. What this means is we've ported the game to Onscripter to implement several improvements. Most notably, the entire game has been upscaled to higher resolutions, and saves can be made anywhere (Please note that saves from the original VN will not work). If you're interested, the installation information can be found here:

https://pastebin.com/7Q1QRZ27

There are two options for the resolution to download: 960x720 and 1440x1080. Keep in mind we had to put all the assets, including all the images, into uncompressed folders, which bloated the filesize. If you're more interested in a polished version of Monster Girl Quest with a relatively smaller file size, the 720p version is a reasonable 7 GB. If you want to take the plunge and go all the way, the 1080p version is around 18 GB. The higher resolutions and Onscripter port came with some compromises. We had to replace all the special characters in the game script with whatever could emulate the expression behind them, and we had to restart the music currently playing after a video clip is played as a workaround for video cutting out the music.

Besides the higher resolutions and functioning saves, we went through the game to add a bunch of improvements while preserving the original experience as closely as possible. These include:

- Optimizing the game menu and Monsterpedia to load more efficiently

- Patching up some bugs in the original game script and adding back in some missing lines

- Making lots of grammatical corrections to Rogue's translated script

- Fixing up the Record so that every enemy skill type is assigned and counted correctly, and expanding it to more thoroughly and accurately cover the game content

You should be able to find the information you need in the pastebin and the readme included with the download, but just in case, I'll briefly go over installation here as well. After you select a folder for your game, download the static files and extract them there. Decide which version of the game you want and download all the .part files for it, saving them in the same folder. Once you're sure every single .part file is fully downloaded in the same place, extract one of them there, and the rest will automatically unpack with it. Before you start playing, make sure you get the latest updates from the Updates Google Drive folder (I know) that corresponds to your resolution. Replace the 0.txt in your game folder with the updated one (using the same name). Some assets that were missing or corrupted can be found in their respective folders in the Updates folder, so download and extract them from there and copy and replace the files over to their matching folders for your game. When everything is unpacked and updated, you're ready to play!

We fixed as many bugs as we could find, but if anyone comes across any issues, let me know. Enjoy!

Does this include special attacks during fights?

If so, that's a dealbreaker. This game was like Kamidori for me, it started as "I want porn" but I got really into it to the point boss battles were fun. Having the boss musics cutting out and restarting after every attack kind of ruins the mood.

Couldn't you just have a variable that saves the time the music started and, when the music restarts, skips ahead current time - start time seconds?

Is the horrifying shit and the shit-tier art still in the game? Honestly the wildly varying art styles really annoyed me. The disgusting shit can be avoided, but that god damn shit artist did like every other monstergirl.

Other dev (not OP) here.

Short answer? No.

Long answer? ONscripter is ass and you can barely do anything in it. The only command available starts a music file from the beginning, no other options.

I (might) be able to cook something up by modifying onscripter itself rather than the script, but no promises. Kind of busy with other stuff at the moment.

Yeah, put that down as a "not happening". Although could you clarify what you mean by "special attacks"? Do you mean luka's skills? Those don't use movies, the only skills that use them are alice's special moves and a couple other special instances (such as aqua pentagram I think)

Extracting the files is throwing an error. I'm extracting all 5 parts at once, like I've done many times in the past with other segmented rar files. I took a screenshot for you. It's the 1080p version. It may actually work fine, but I just thought I'd let you know.

I'm using 7zip at my extraction program. It's better than Winrar, imo.

This may seem like a dumb question but is all of this meant to be pasted over the the original game? Because it doesn't have the exe or dll files, that I can find at least.

I'm not sure about this error right now. I'll look into it.

>>377522

This one, on the other hand, combined with the screenshot, is a clear indication that you didn't download and extract the static files.zip from the first link first like you're supposed to. It might be causing the first error as well.

Yeah, looks like I overlooked that somehow. Usually better about following instructions… It'll probably work fine now.

Works fine when you follow the instructions right. I was able to play through the original game without hitting any major game breaking bugs, but I'll let you know if anything pops up. Thanks again.

Yeah for whatever reason 7zip can be a bit…finnicky sometimes with these archives. I recommend trying winrar if you're having issues, or check if 7zip has any updates.

This would have been awesome for alice 3 form since im pretty sure that battle is that unfair due to the normal save mechanics

Does anyone knows what is missing in paradox 2.2? I havent played it because there were supposedly important thing missing?

Okay, so update time. I'm the guy who worked on bugfixing for the script for this, and I thought I made a good pass when this was first posted, but there was even more left to do than I could imagine. I've found and fixed a lot more things like battle lines being displayed incorrectly and incorrect names in places like "Aqua Pentagram" being called "Aqua Pentagon".

I also went through and fixed a lot of inconsistencies that popped up if locations were skipped. For example, making sure that the Goblin Girl doesn't show up at the end of the Yamatai Village visit in Part 3 if the bandit cave wasn't completed. Some plot detail spoilers here to explain what else I had to do to fix this. The most significant change I had to make in this regard was San Ilia's appearance in the final battle sequence. Previously, San Ilia would be destroyed if the Haunted Mansion wasn't completed in Part 1, but there were still checks in the script for visiting San Ilia in Part 3 with the Haunted Mansion either completed or not. I normally avoid any sort of rewrite like the plague, but I had no choice but to add a new sequence for the final battle in order to fix an inconsistency that happens as a result of this. Finish the Haunted Mansion location in Part 1, but skip the Haunted Mansion and BioLabs in Part 3. Watch in amazement as Chrome shows up out of nowhere to save San Ilia, with three Cirque Du Croix members backing her up. In order to make the sequence of events make sense if Chrome's locations were skipped, I had to add a new scene for San Ilia's battle without Chrome, with her scene playing afterward if her locations were completed. Now San Ilia can be saved in Part 3 without visiting the Haunted Mansion, with the different dialogue that was in the script before but previously inaccessible.

Besides fixing a bunch of things (like an "of couse" that I'm embarrassed I missed before), I added two new features to this update. The first is H-Scene skips for story H-Scenes. Before, there was an option to automatically skip or prompt to skip H-Scenes for fights that have already been viewed. However, H-Scenes in the middle of the game's story were still mandatory. Now the same option can be used to skip those scenes. If you're not interested in seeing the Chimera Prison's scene, for example, you can skip past it.

The second feature, also optional, is a rework for how the elemental spirits and Serene Mind and Fallen Angel Dance function. Before, once they were activated, you had to wait for them to expire before you could activate them again. Now, with the exceptions of Salamander and the SP-draining version of Serene Mind, you can refresh them at any time as often as you wish, and new counters in the battle display will show you how many turns each ability has left. This will hopefully make it easier to prevent a spirit from expiring at a bad time. You can either stick with the old style to preserve the original experience, or use the new system for convenience.

For both of these features, you need to go to the Special Config menu under Extras to select what options you want.

The updated scripts aren't included in the full downloads, so be sure to get them from the Updates Drive in the pastebin, which now has the new files. Get the right txt script file for your version of the game and put it in your folder to replace the old one. Unfortunately, old saves will be broken with the updated game since the scripts have been changed. We also found that some bgm files sounded off due to the sample rates, so get those from the Updates Drive as well and put them in your bgm folder to replace the ones you have if they don't sound right.

>>387673

I don't know what you mean by custom routes, but this is just the original game with the improvements I've talked about. The only story changes are some translation rewrites for better grammatical structure while preserving the original meaning, as well as the few changes I had to make for story consistency when locations are skipped that I talked about above. We wanted to upscale and polish the original game without any revisionism.

After a lot of extra work, we've finished another set of major improvements to the Remaster. The pastebin link in the OP has been updated with new information, so read it again carefully to be up to date.

First, we've made the entire package for both versions much, much smaller. We've managed to compress the 720p version to 2 GB and the 1080p version to 2.9 GB. The image quality isn't quite as high as it was before, but it's very close, and as a result it's much faster to download. If you've been on the fence about downloading the remaster, it's now much easier than before.

The second big change is we've worked out a system to have all the dialogue word wrapped, making it easier to read (and with a port like this, it was easier said than done). Our tests so far show all the dialogue displaying correctly, but let us know if anything still looks out of place.

Third and final, we've included an optional script to produce upscaled side stories. It involves working with a waifu2x upscaler, so it's only recommended if you think your computer can handle it. We've included instructions and a step by step command prompt as the program runs, so it shouldn't be too difficult to follow. NVIDIA GPUs with CUDA should should be able to upscale through the GPU. CPU processing is also an option, but usually takes longer and eats more CPU resources.

If you already have the remaster downloaded, you can get the updated script from the Updates folder. Once again, this will break old saves. The only remaining issues with presentation are the missing dll effects and mpg files cutting off the music, forcing the music to reset. Unfortunately, short of a major engine overhaul for Onscripter, there is no way to fix these issues in the foreseeable future.
