I also noticed quite a few hints of dystopia in the manga. The incredibly harsh laws stood out, and you'll notice that in several scenes there are heavily armed soldiers in the background rather than the more lightly armed civil police I'd normally expect based on the context. I was reading a translation though. Any moonrune reading Anons here who can say if that reading is valid or if we're missing something in translation?

All that's said and done, is there anything you anons like about the manga itself? I do admit that I like the notes at end of chapters about pets, extinct species and I recall one about gods. It's some fascinating tidbits.

There's too many things to get angry about in the manga. Some subtle, some obvious, but overall it's enough to piss me off

It's what happens with multiculturalism on steroids. Modern liberalism is not about personal freedom, but about equality. Why, it could all be trumped up like the holocaust for all we know and centaurs were never actually treated that way in the past, but the story is told as such as to absolutely condition people that sitting on a centaurs back (and thereby symbolically placing him beneath you) is to be absolutely avoided at all costs for equality.

I like the manga quite a bit and I don't understand what you guys are on about. It seems like most don't even read the manga.

The whole point seems to be how dark and horrible such a world of "forced equality" can be. Like I remember that in one of the first chapters one of the girls was too exhausted to walk but refused to get carried by the centaur girl because she cald be cahrged with a hate crime. Even kindergarden kids are strongly controlled by the teachers because any innocent comment could lead mean trouble for everyone. As mentioned before, there are guards armed with assault rifles at innocent seeming events like festivals.

All that said, the manga isn't preachy about this. Everything is just shown as it is and the characters accept it as a daily fact of their life but any reader with half a braincell understands how dark their society is. How anybody who reads this manga could see it as pro-SJW baffles me.

You know after re-reading it I just noticed one of the alien bits (chapter 42) has one of the snake people protect an angel child. You can just make out the snake's face after part of his face gets vaporized. I thought he was just a robot or something, but showcasing the snake taking his mask off earlier leaves too much of a coincidence to me.

The first episode is out, it was pretty good. The animation could be better but from what I've seen in recent years, it could be a whole lot worse too. I'm glad they stayed close to the original character designs. Episode 1 was the first two chapters of the manga which makes me wonder about how much they are going to skip.

One of the reasons that the manga occasionally flashes to classroom or television scenes is to show how gradual conditioning can accustom people to desired patterns of thought and accept control. The characters do not react in the way you would expect because llthey inhabit it whereas you are glimpsing into it. The true nature of the world is not supposed to be unsubtle slapped in the characters' faces, but rather conveyed to the audience as a kind of creeping wrongness that it would be impossible for one of the characters themselves to notice. The lies and deceptions are supposed to be subtle and multilayered just like in real life.

I think you misunderstand. What this shows is that these ideas have been normalised within this society, not that the author thinks that these ideas are OK. The way they're framed and presented, although mostly in the background, tends to put all these things more on the creepy and unsettling side.

Just like the normalfags here in meat-space are blind to just how bad things have gotten because it was such a slow gradual change, it's the same for the world depicted in the manga. There's this air of "There's nothing we can do about it." sort of feeling of powerlessness, combined with not knowing how good things used to be/could be if only they stopped being passive and shying away from confrontation. Add to that the fact that it's set in Japan where it is deeply embedded into the culture to conform to the world around you. People over there very much dislike when someone goes against the grain in any way. It's seen as unsightly and is social suicide for anyone wanting to get anywhere in life. Even if they dislike things as they are, to disrupt the status quo is a faux pas.
