I do hate myself so I did give it a watch.
It was okay I guess. The laugh track really ticked me off.
I'm not really familiar with SNL apart from maybe vaguely knowing about maybe one or two of the classic sketches, so I don't know whether the laugh track is "ironic" or not. Either way, annoying.
Most of it just seems like something a group of random internet nobodies would have made in the 2000s but with a higher budget.
The only part that got a chuckle out of me was when they started playing the Wario music from the Super Mario Land gameboy title and Elon was dancing. Probably more just because of nostalgia but still.
There are already articles being written about how it is offensive to Italian Americans and how they are angry about the sketch. If you can't do something as tame as implying that Italian Americans have funny accents in mainstream media nowadays then Sam was right to jump ship.
I mean people have been making these Mario jokes for decades now. Are we really reaching such low hanging fruit in 2021? It really seems like something that would have been made in 2001 (and not in a good way).
TL;DR? I'd much rather watch Sim Sam the Flim Flam Man.
