So raw I'm wondering if it was real (the phone recording, obviously), if that's the real reason he had to live in a shack on his friend's property. I don't like Charls' streams and most of the other bombstrap stuff was just meh, but this was great. Actually made me feel an emotion.

To be completely honest, this bored the shit out of me. I almost stopped watching mid-way through the g/f phone call. Do you guys really like this or do you just have a touch of fanboyism? All of Charls' creativity can be boiled down to trying to sound vaguely schizophrenic, which has become so overdone over the years.

You guys are missing the point. There is a cohesive story here.
It was very clear imo what this video was about. I think it was a dark comedy, in a sense, if you want to label it.
In general, I think this was about a man making the hard decision to leave his girlfriend when she falls into pornography for pay, because she would prefer to sell her body online than accept a harder life with less money and being with the one she is suppose to love in their tiny apartment.
The boyfriend goes through a lot of anguish, but in the end his decision was the right or best one and he moves on and creates a new life for himself.
Let’s review:
1. Charls rents an apartment for a week, and the owner implies the deal is that streamers (and pornographic streamers) rent this apartment to shoot videos or stream outside of their homes.
2. Charls is hesitant and detached from the get go. He moves slowly, he lingers here and there. The landlord’s voice fades away at several points. Charls pictures in his mind what these streamers do and gets upset (his hand tightens on the chair when the landlord stated he needed to keep replacing the chair as it gets soiled by the streamers).
3. When the landlord is gone, Charls chooses to relax through the use of some substance X (doesn’t matter what it is, but in this case it’s chew probably just cause Charls already uses it). Note the use of the gaming selection system imagery; almost implying he is not so free that he can make totally unique decisions; he must choose from a limited number of decisions, and hesitates with this as well.
4. After finishing with the chew, he explores the apartment. The use of video game imagery continues and is prevalent, which signals Charls’ uncertainty about this path he is on (at this point, we don’t know the path). Everything is about defeating this imagery in a gaming context, everything is about his personal anger towards these streamers and their activities.
5. He falls asleep, and when he wakes up he calls his girlfriend. Notice the use of traditional male/female imagery in the background throughout this call. This is quickly contrasted with the depiction of Charls as the “female” to his girlfriend’s breadwinning “male” status.
6. It is soon revealed that his girlfriend is one of those “loathed pornographic streamers”, and when he suggests that he has become aware of this by talking about cameras and the hookah (and “being in her office” - another gender reversing imagery), she immediately goes on the defence. She attacks his masculinity by saying his penis is small and that he can’t provide for them as a man should. She cites her unhappiness with their small apartment. She first threatens to leave him and then threatens to kick him out.
7. Charls is still hesitant; I wager he decides only in the moment of the phone call to exit the relationship. The pregnancy talk after his decision is mostly made was not completely literal; it served to contrast the traditional imagery, but as we will see, its most important function was its use as a signal to the girlfriend that Charls has the ability to move on from her. He can have a life without her, regardless of struggle. He needs to defeat this technological offence.
9. He falls asleep, and when he awakes he experiences pain in his gut much like a woman might experience morning sickness/kicking/etc - but the pain is actually signalling withdrawal symptoms, telling us that it is not easy for him to simply leave a relationship (or anything you put a lot of time into), but that he is willing to endure this pain in order to be free and happy.
10. In the next scene, Charls is completely gone from the oppressive landscape of the degenerate apartment. He is visibly heavy in the gut, literally like he is “pregnant”; but this pregnancy signals that he has made “a new life” for himself without his ex. He has defeated what he detests the most by severing himself from it completely.
There is more I’m sure but I’m not my phone and don’t wanna get into analyzing the vocal skew (there’s a lot of content to discuss from the scene prior to the landlord arriving; there’s also a lot to say about how the landlord left - providing to Charls the half empty “substance X”. There’s also something to be said about Charls angrily fixing the light, among other things).
Overall I think this is pretty much the story and the rest is supporting imagery. The light for example: he hasn’t made his decision. He is in the apartment and he is visibly angry with what he has to do, the position he is in, etc.
Would like to hear other thoughts if anyone has something to add or to critique if you feel like it

Though I appreciate that you took the time to write out this analysis, I still don't think it's a very good story tbh. The story definitely shares the same kind of principles as most MDE videos, like being against degeneracy and what not, but it seems to be pretty superficial compared to those videos. In the first place, like others have said, is it really that hard of a decision to break up with your whore gf that it warrants to be made a whole film out of? The lack of sense in the premise makes it unrelatable, which diminishes the sympathy I feel for Charls's character, who by the way is such a blank slate that it's hard to like him. He's just acting as his autistic self. All of this would have been fine if it was actually funny, but I barely cracked a smile.
Just saying, if Charls's name wasn't tied to this, I would have forgotten about it immediately and I wouldn't even have cared enough to comment about it. If it wasn't for the fancy visuals and editing it could have fooled me for being an average film made by film students, especially with the subject of the film being a break-up.

That yes; and the percentage of words spoken in front of the landlord vs when he is alone vs conversation with girlfriend. I think there is something to be said about the background imagery during these moments as well. But you're right; I'm sure it was heavily stylistic, but just because an author doesn't intentially or consciously inject ulterior meaning doesn't mean it isn't there and can't be evaluated.
>>23453
Ya I'm not claiming Charls is some grand master of literature or thematic film. It was a relatively straight forward story: hero faces villainous girlfriend, struggles and eventually overcomes.
>is it really that hard of a decision to break up with your whore gf that it warrants to be made a whole film out of?
To answer the first part of your question, there is no indication really how long these two were together. It could have been years, they could have been thinking about having kids (which is why the boyfriend goes to "pregnancy" right away during the argument). They could have a lot of links together and the decision to leave is painful, even just for the fact you're admitting the amount of time lost and the bad decision you made (and there is no shame in that). I think it would be overtly superficial if it wasn't a "difficult" decision in the video, even if it is the right and only choice.
To answer the second part; there's no limit on what you can make a film out of. The fact is that many people are in a similar situation, and are scared to admit their mistakes and all the time/effort/money they lost on their bad decision. But anyone can overcome this, especially if they see other people having done it as well. We all know Charls is on a purity kick (or maybe it's just an act), but what better way to promote purity and healing than showing others it is okay to move on from their mistakes? Why not use a very common mistake in our oversexed population?
You gotta consider that the "tabula rassa" nature rolling on the MC is likely so that the people I have alluded to above can self-insert. But for me, I found the autismo to be very indicative of an "underdog" archtype that you really don't believe will succeed or go through with his choice in the end (like when the girlfriend started threatening to cut off access to sex; wouldn't you expect some dopey nerdy dude to panic and backtrack in real life?)
Honestly I doubt the comedy of this work as well. It was funny in a very dark way, but I myself can't relate to it either as I've never been in such a situation as what was depicted. Maybe it wasn't for us. I don't think every MDE (or MDE offshoot) video has to be funny tho, I think sometimes they're just talking to anyone who needs to hear what they're saying. IMO that's always what MDE has been: what sounds irrelevant and obscure to one person is exactly what someone else needs to be hearing.
I suppose I agree with your last paragraph; sometimes I doubt how much my interest in MDE has affected the way I intake comedy or 'alternative' comedy from other sources (and this 'second act' for the MDE boys). I don't really think about it too much because that seems like something I'm not actualised enough in my critical reflection skills to do; but as long as I'm here I'll discuss and critique the content in a harmless fashion and just trying to be as detailed and careful about my word choice as possible.
If it does not bring joy, forget about it!

If this is why charls is taking such a long amount of time between actual content-posting, then I can understand because it seems like a lot of effort went into this video. Sometimes it seems like he's doing nothing for a while and dropping things randomly in between, but I can now believe his instagram posts where months in advance he says he's working on something and then there's silence about it until it's done.

I used to be a big fan of charls and active in his community, but then I realized that all he does is pretend to sound schizophrenic, and all his fans are just masturbating their egos pretending they understand and that they’re super white pilled and smarter than anyone else.
They all pretend to be Christian together, and virtue signal/circle jerk to each other about not taking drugs or watching porn (they all do). It got nauseating watching a group of people who literally spend their entire life on discord pass judgement on every single thing that isn’t “pure”. Bunch of disgusting hypocrites, and that’s without even getting to charls, who is the patient zero of this fart-smelling fish pilled garbage

yeah I have to agree with you overall but it wasn't always like that. Charls used to talk much more normally and give coherent advice like 1-1.5 years ago. The older twitch clips of him on youtube show this, and I was there, I've seen the gradual progression into what you're talking about. I almost always pop into his stream to see whats going on but never stay longer than a few minutes any more. The stream has really gone to shit since Charls started doing this weird character bs, or he's actually going insane.
I really think that a large part of the reason he wont contact sam is this new mindset he's in.
Its almost like his life is so shit that he has to constantly trick himself into believing everything is great so he can hold himself together.
Despite all of that, I love the new Bombstrap and Im excited for the future of that channel.
