I have to disagree with your "getting old" points. I found MDE a little less than 2 years ago, and I'm 22 years old now. I have little to no nostalgia because I was consuming old vertical vids and youtube sketches at the same time as WP episodes. I think stuff like prodigal stunna and moms are great, and sam's last couple releases have been pretty mediocre, particularly TOA. I liked the first two HWD episodes a good bit more than the third. I still have hope for Sam to be funny again, because I think he hardly ever stopped being funny. The main problem with these past couple releases is the amount of production value and hype (release deadlines people are looking forward to), surrounding content that is not Sam's best by any means, is ultimately a letdown.
I could easily imagine something like that last sketch Ruse posted on youtube being done again today, if only Charls would contact Sam. The new guys in TOA did not add anything of value. A decent sketch idea with left-in cuts of Charls, Sam, and Nick cracking up before it cuts to the next take, filmed and released today, would probably be funny as ever. The problem is that the whole thing feels incomplete without Charls and without much Nick. Sam is trying to compensate for all that's missing with his graphics and edits, which are generally good and appealing, but it simply can't fill the hole entirely.
I dont know what Sam did to Charls to prompt this besides getting the show cancelled, but I feel like he should at least tell Sam why he doesn't want to work with him any more.

This WAS Sam Hyde. This was why we liked him, not just because he and his crew were funny but because despite the inanity and commentary he was just a guy, like any of us, and equally just as weird. He used to just be normally abnormal, and it was great.
People enjoyed Hyde Wars not because of his often either common sense or otherwise absurdly trash advice but because it was reminiscent of the days where he would just be a guy and a camera. I mean why do you think KSTV was even enjoyable, let alone funded? You really think people liked having their speakers shredded by a jackass who can't into audio mixing to save his life and belts out reverb into a crappy mic? You think anyone enjoyed that same jackass putting some mongoloid in charge of sfx and video editing while he rambled on into a garbage webcam and some guy's garbage phone camera?
KSTV was enjoyed because it was Sam. It was just Sam doing what he used to do, being like one of us and mocking/commenting on the stupidity of others while being ridiculous himself. He was a jackass but he was our jackass. That's why we liked him. That's why we cheered and got excited whenever he came onto another youtuber's livestream or when he dropped by to openly mock that stupid He Will Not Divide Us nonsense.
Then more info came out about him, lots of it unverified, but when he started scraping and scrimping for money out of us we rose a brow. Why is he locking out HydeWars along with all his other stuff behind a paywall? Why is he basically disappearing himself from us? Did he really make VMUdream take down all those vids from him via content strikes? Did he really shyster Charles out of money?
And so we looked at Charles and between his wreckage of a manic-depressive existence we see how he has lost all taste for what Sam does and for the longest didn't even respond to Sam's call to bring him back. We looked at how Sam was changing in the HydeWars vids, going from being the guy we used to know just talking and having fun to being this shmuck who think's he's imparting sage advice to teenagers.
When he mentioned making videos like Moleneux, we should have known.
When he started making HydeWars locked-off, we should have known.
Now he's doing references after references to call-backs during the most insincere email car salesman bull we've ever seen and it comes across fake, but more than fake. It's disgusting.
It's sickening not because of the overall vibe it gives off or how hard it's trying to be personable but because it's so alien, so distant and so unlike the guy we used to enjoy. If this email is anything like the vids he's working on then it's all going to be the same–fake, try-hard "ironic" humor lagging two years behind current events and stuffed with bombs and dead memes hiding under the guise of "ironic" humor.
tl;dr Sam is a genuine guy, or at least he always knew how to present himself as personable and genuine.
