Short answer is obviously because they split, but there's a reason why Sam's one-man MDE "successor" will never produce anything of the same caliber as pre-WP MDE.

When you look at bits from KSTV, vertical vids, college cunts, etc… they're targeting people in their mid to late 20s. It's a brand of humour especially tailored to drag out uncomfortable truths reflecting on the lives and experiences of the typical north american millennial and the ever unnavigable, wasted, entropic existence ahead of and behind him. Vid related is a prime example. Although what Sam's saying looks like "advice", it's not actually designed for consumption by some high schooler who hasn't yet had the chance to make the mistake. Rather it's an afterthought meant to get under the skin and kick someone who's already experienced it.

Whatever Sam produces now is for literal kids. The target audience is no longer disenfranchised college grad millennials but zoomer teenagers. The greatest strength of MDE's comedic style was delivering generation-specific redpills like a punch to the viewer's face, and this can only be done when the comedian is intimately familiar with his topic. The tone of Sam's content is now aimed at a generation of which he isn't a part, hence he'll always be out of his element.

Since MDE is fundamentally generational humour, it definitely has an expiration date. Perhaps Sam is already obsolete because most of the insight in his humour is now mainstream, thus it can't be a "redpill" anymore. It's no longer a "redpill" that college is a waste of money, humans are irresponsible pleasure-seeking drones, and that western society is a cesspit headed in a futureless direction. The foundation on which MDE was built is now destroyed. The pillar of their comedy has crumbled to dust. Thus with a heavy heart, I must pronounce MDE to be dead.

The simpler answer is that a sociopath that burns his bridges will eventually run out of bridges to burn.

His target audience doesn't have much to do with it IMO, if he was actually talented he'd find his success regardless, even if it meant he had to completely reinvent himself.

Sam's an emperor that has no clothes and his his kingdom of dick suckers is rapidly dwindling. That's all there is to it.

not a bad analysis and I thought the same myself. Sam is an element of nostaliga (i'm his age to the year) now for that period of life.

honestly though it's not his fault. i saw his interview with an eggman stream from a year ago and he was talking about being old and not really getting the new websites and memes used by younger kids. i know the feeling, not that i'm some child groomer who wants to know where they hang out or anything, but being this clueless an oblivious about youth culture smacks me fucking hard in the face about my age. 33 isn't young but to feel like this much of an old fart is strangely discouraging, i would imagine especially so for someone like Sam who is deeply engaged in the culture

that said I think they are the ones who gravitated to him. See his NYC HWNDU stream? there were tons of zoomers going up to him like a god and he acted really polite, knowing they were just kids compared to him, almost half his age. he seemed humble about it and cool about it, though you know he was like "jeez who are these doofus little brats" behind the politeness. tl;dr I don't think he went to them or is trying to court them. for whatever reason they went to him and he is working with that, which i find to be on some level nice of him to do, since he would probably rather just make content he wants without considering those perspectives.

Sam is a generational figure. pic related was shown on the WP premiere on [AS] here in the USA (since you write it 'humour'). Sam is on the level of Bill Hicks or Lenny Bruce. He's already a legend. He came on AS 10 years after Tim Heidecekr and he has the same meme presence on the chans and socials, even among zoomers, that T&E did in 2006-2010 and still do. And the cha po, leftypol, and various other leftist/POC groups who attack Sam – to this very hour, here, on this board, with relentless obsession – are our modern equivalent of the church ladies and Decency Censors who attacked Lenny Bruce in the 1960s

Weather the Bernstein storm?

What about the storm where people learn about Sam fucking borderline illegally-underage groupies?

Or the #metoo storm that would have happened when he fucked that AS producer?

Or the huge anti-alt-right storm that wouldn't have ended with Bernstein if more episodes were funded? Sam has the subtlety of a brick to your face when it comes to his right wing dog whistling, things would have escalated into cancellation regardless.

A few years ago I rewatched most of Liquid Television (thanks to myspleen.org), a show from my early youth, very influential. It was edgy shit your parents wouldn't let you watch if they knew so it felt cool as a kid. Sam mentioned it at least once so I know he saw it too.

What I noticed seeing it as an audlt (vs like a 6/7/8 year old) was how it was clearly the work of angsty, smart creatives lamenting their culture. They were acting ostensibly brainy with history references in some of the animations and songs. there was a free for all vibe, almost like early adult swim, with just insane and weird shit. recommend checking it out if it's on youtube. (I also rewatched The Head, which again was weird to see as an adult in the age group the main character is after loving it as a super young kid)

Sam and MDE are the millennial generation's closest comparison to that.

You guys are stupid and spent 200k on college, there's nothing special about your generation other than that.

can mostly agree with this, if there's problems it's not so much that it needs to be framed as a generational thing, it's something else, i'm not sure what the rules are with all of this, but if you find yourself being more of a shillmedian than a comedian there's problems. Like legitimately, who watches a Gavin Mcinnes video and ever laughs. You don't want to come off as being in this mold exactly like you don't want to come off as a 'comedian' that did what it took to get on netflix.

watch the clip, for real. i'm no big jbp fan but i saw this a while ago and it resonated with me. it IS talking about sam (how narcissists have their sidekicks and all). some people are good guys who are just flawed and happen to be "going through some sheeit." some guys are legitimately persecuted martyrs who become targets for their uncompromising political or religious views. but others are genuinely mentally ill narcissists who will look to suck whatever they can out of any somewhat naive person they meet.

the only good result that can come out of being duped by a narcissist/sociopath is that you'll be many times more wary when you begin to engage with new people, especially men, and can sort out the people you should keep at a distance and those to keep close.
