We're All Gonna Make It, Fella

Hello drawfriends, I'm a person who can't draw worth shit, who's tried a few times and owns a graphic tablet. I've also read Loomis and tried to get a grip of it, but I'm not having much luck. "Fun with a Pencil" seems to be the easiest book, and even then I'm having trouble getting these basic, cartoonish designs not to look like shit.

At this point, it seems very hard to make any progress. I might just be retarded, but even the aformentioned book takes things a bit faster than I can handle.

Please help, I have no idea what I should be doing if I failed even that. I just want to make cute drawings that people can enjoy.

Nice post number

The first thing you want to get a hang of is manual dexterity; in the "resource hub" there's a couple videos on that, follow along with them.

What kind of tablet do you have? Depending on your answer you might want to ditch the motherfucker because it might be holding you back.

Ooh, didn't even notice.

Also, I've been checking the resource hub. I really like Matt Kohr's videos, except most of it seems to be repeating the same concept in different words. I'm using a Huion Pro 610, which cost me I think 60 CAD (so like, 50 USD, real cheap). That being said, I've been shit at drawing all my life, so I think I'd only invest more if I could actually make something resembling progress.

Thanks for the quick response, I'll try revisiting the videos.

The H610 should be fine, it's one of the better tablets I've used and probably the cheapest.

That said, if you were NEVER good with drawing and are completely unpracticed you've got a long road ahead of you. Before you really do anything you really ought to set the tablet aside and pick up some cheap printer paper and a mechanical pencil and go through the Peter Han Dynamic Sketching video over and over again. To put things in perspective how long this sort of thing takes, I had to put in hours a day for several weeks (might have been months) before my lines and ellipses were acceptable (to me). Once you're able to do that though, everything else you do will be more accurate and easier.

Oh shit, that actually makes things more encouraging. I thought I was a special case of bad since I have trouble drawing consistent lines and basic shapes. It's a good thing to know that's normal.

Will do, thanks guys.
