Hello I was just hoping someone could help me with a logo for my business. It is a mobile bicycle repair business, which I do on my bicycle, all by donation. I just want something simple that gets the idea across and can be used when doing cross-promotion with other bike-oriented businesses. This is what I managed to whip up in GIMP using a public domain picture of a bicycle.

I am the sole owner of the business. It is not a big company. I work for donations. I help poor people make their bikes work so they can get around without paying for public transport.
I don't want anyone to spend a ton of time on this, just asking for help. If you don't want to help, please don't.
I often do repairs for free. I am not rich, I live month to month. I have been off work due to being hit head-on by a van a few weeks ago, and because of this I have actually gone into the negative financially.
I was just hoping for some input/help on my logo. At the end of your video it says help people if you think it is a good cause. I think what I am trying to do is a good cause. If you don't, please don't help.

…and if it's any consolation the design you made yourself is perfectly acceptable, I don't think you'll need anything better than that to start out. If you're upset that nobody here is likely to drop everything to spend hours to make a commercial design for you because you asked nicely I urge you to consider the inherent irony, my dude.

I don't want anyone to spend a lot of time on this. Just looking for input. It will not upset me if no-one does. Thanks for saying my design is ok.

I see, it's kind of a charity thing, that does change things. Like I said though I think your logo looks more than adequate as-is, perhaps you could consider cropping your photo from your website on overlaying some text over that. You can get full color business card prints cheap from gotprint.com (unless things have changed)

Thanks, I already have business cards. This logo is for when I am working with other businesses and they want a logo to include. I think it should be something that works in black and white. I was going to try and silhouette my fully loaded bike, but that is beyond my skill.
Will just use what I made for now. Thanks again.

I tell you what man, I could silhouette your bike in less than 5 minutes probably; post a picture of your bike and I'll do it for you when I get home.

Just an opinion, I honestly think the stock art you've chosen will work better as a design, and I'm not just saying that because I grossly underestimated the time I think this is going to take! One thing I could do is take one of your tool bags and slap it on there. I think with both on the silhouette will appear kind of muddled

Ok I was thinking the same thing. My bags are ratty and shitty looking.
Thanks!
One last thing. My friend said I should vector it so it can't be stretched. I downloaded Inkscape to attempt this, but it always messes up my pic and lettering.

The only way to properly vector something is to go over it bit-by-bit. That isn't something I can do I'm afraid; even if I could it would tale a long time and probably wouldn't be worth it for your purposes anyway.

ok no worries. Thanks for all your input.
The offer of free bike repairs still stand if you are ever in Vancouver, BC. Could also hook you up with a bike if you need one while visiting.
Cheers!

I'm not going to lie, I think the stock art just looks plain better. The utilitarian nature of the bags is apparent when you're looking at them in person, but as a silhouette they just look like a big fat blob as I'd suspected. I added a couple "rim-light" style lines to describe the general form in a second image-ultimately it's your decision.

I actually really like the second one. Are you able to do the front rack and bag as well?
That is awesome.

actually, if it takes more than a minute don't worry about it. It is nice, but the original is good as well.
Thanks again.

cheers. This has also inspired me to get better with gimp. I have no talent when it comes to free-hand drawing, but can probably do alright with gimp and a bit of practice. Thanks for all your input.
