It's better than "drawing from the right side of the brain" as well.

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain is an awful book from the end of the first chapter onwards, but it's basically a prerequisite to any kind of drawing. If you've seen a lot of people begin to draw they really have a hard time "getting it" and I think DotRSotB explains the concept in an easy to understand way.

I really hate Sycra's style man. The thing is, he isn't even a bad artist, he just has shitty taste and no eye for appeal.

I was just ribbing him, Sycra's actually a good teacher and I respect him for the most part. At his worst he's certainly better than I'll likely be for the foreseeable future.

No I get you familia, and I agree: he's a good teacher, a respectable artist, and certainly more skilled than me by many years. I just simply don't like his stylistic flavor, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If he wasn't so dedicated towards the "pointiness" of his stuff, or found some way to implement it that wasn't so hard on the eyes, I'm sure I'd enjoy it more.

Drawing Picasso's retardo drawing of that nerd upside-down is one of the best introductions to observational drawing that's yet been conceived. Many people couldn't follow anything Sycra has ever said without the kind of preliminary understanding. Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain is a great introduction to that concept, but it's an awful book because the rest of it relies on ridiculous extraneous tools she expects the readers to buy. From the end of Chapter 1 on Keys to Drawing is pretty much objectively better.

I'm reading this atm, I'm at page 65, should I drop it in favor of Keys to Drawing or just finish it?

If you have the tools she requires for you to participate in her lessons then by all means continue working through it.

Relatively new to drawing
Should I do this or should I stick with the books first or perhaps a little bit of both?

Go do peter han's dynamic sketching course for a few months and then pick up Keys to Drawing or Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.
What Sycra is suggesting is good, but mostly when you understand a few core fundamentals

FWAP is good, no shame in starting with that-it is kind of an intermediate book though, it's a beginner's book on an intermediate subject if that makes sense
