A lot of Murakami's books focus on spirits in the modern day as either a major point or side point. He uses it to create a surreal feeling to drive his plot across when having human interactions won't cut it. Personally, i enjoyed Kafka on the Shore but its a type of book you have to read over twice and then think about each chapter on how it relates to spirits.
Its alright. The more books you read, the more you'll notice his writing style which is kind of unique. Pic related would be a good book to read afterwards
