I read a book as a kid about some Asian girl in an orphanage or something. The cover was a blue/yellow/green stripes and she was sitting on the cover wearing pigtails and a skateboard in cartoon style. Also what was the name of the mathematical philosopher who fought in WW1 he's well-known.

I read this book in 2008/2009, it was probably only a few years old by then and I think the title had the name Ollie in it or something.

Alright hang on was it a novel, a poetry book, or a young adult tier novel.

Novel or young adult-tier shit and it was 300/400 pages judging by thickness, it was in my school's library but had occasional curse words and "graphic" imagery like crows eating bodies in a house. I can barely remember some scenes or even what the fuck it was about, one had the adult of the orphanage force the kids to be rude as shit to an ice cream scooper when ordering ice cream.

Yeah sorry Anon no clue, Young Adult shit is usually iconic in terms of scenes and I can't remember anything like that so you have two choices
1. Unironically go on Reddit and ask.
2. Go back to your schools library and pray it's there.

Is it possible to make a character seem realistic even if you don't know much about real people in the first place? Some common advice I see is "base them off your friends/family" but I don't have any friends and my family barely interacts with each other. Basing it off myself wouldn't work since I'm not that interesting and a lot of people seem to hate depressed characters.

Every place I've gone to for writing advice says that it's the only way to make a character three-dimensional and believable. Even doing all the typical things like giving them flaws, personal beliefs, hobbies/interests, etc. isn't good enough for some reason.

Don't want to make a new thread but does anyone else remember a children's novel set in a near future Britain where the water levels have risen and tribes of children live on tiny islands and war with each other. A girl has to escape from a tribe that lives in a church turned fortress by fixing a secret boat.

Well since you say giving them hobbies, flaws, beliefs and such isnt working is it how you describe them or how you have them acting? Are they clunky or robotic?
Maybe if you post a little example we can see what’s wrong and help you out.

Hello, dear faggots. I have a simple question for you; Where can one download books for free? I need a book titled Liquid Times: Living in an Age of Uncertainty by Zygmunt Bauman, so if you have it, do me a solid and give me a download link. It's a philosophy book or something, and I don't want to fucking pay for it. Ideally a pdf, please.
