What are some books that offer entertainment without heavy themes or subject matter? I haven't read any books since November and I really want to get back into reading (depression sucks). Any anons know of some gud books? Easy shit please. Thanks.

Look for pastoral writers who are all about capturing the comfiness of the comfiest countrysides, stuff like the best of the British Isles or Japanese Islands before modernity brought its attention to those lands. Stuff by Patrick Taylor might be worth looking into, as it's accessible and pretty damn happy most of the time, capturing that rural feel where everyone trusts everyone and things are simple and good.

How to Beat Up Anyone - Judah Friedlander

The Zombie Survival Guide - Max Brooks

Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs - Chuck Klosterman

all are very easy reads. the beat up anyone is straight comedy, survival guide is actually a useful how to in that ridiculous situation, and the last book is a series of essays ranging from funny to weird

Fermor is sort of what you're looking for. He has some themes present in most of his work like the loss of innocence or the passing of older orders but you can kind of ignore them in favor of his lovely prose and settings. The Violins of Ste. Jacques is a good place to start, pretty short. If you like it I'd suggest reading his European travelogues after that.

Pretty much this. J. L. Carr is good at this, although his books have deeper themes. They can be easily ignored to find what you're looking for. A Month in the Country is a good start and a great book about a WWI veteran restoring a medieval mural in a small English village.

Adventurers wanted series by M.L. Forman is pretty easy reading. It is a little cliched in its premise but not unenjoyable.
