He does fuck up by giving approximate years when there is zero theory backing that. Doesn't change what the outcome will be. The other thing we can't possibly predict is the recovery time and exact negative impact, which he tries to approximate as well. It might be the next economic apocalypse and end up going away in less than a year if all of a sudden States finally decide to give up, and let it go away on its own, OR it could take another two decades.
I can't predict how long you'll take to bash your skull in if you repeatedly smash a rock against it, but what we can know for certain is that the rock will eventually win unless you stop, and even if you do stop, you will still have taken vital damage. What you could do, knowing with certainty it is the best decision, is to not crush rocks with your skull and do something more productive that is not sure to fail.
