>Except Ocasio-Cortez isn't quite the blue-collar champion she's branding herself as. Breitbart's Josh Caplan is out with a "fact check" on the Democratic Socialist's background - only to find she grew up in one of the richest counties in the United States.

Just another champagne socialist looking to scam the ignorant masses so she can live comfortably in the ivory tower of government for her entire working life.

I'm not too worried because the rise of popularity of "Socialism" has no real shared definition. Everyone who subscribes to it thinks they'll get their own special brand and the outcomes they want. Sure, their actions may lead to a more totalitarian era, but at least that's not what they actually want, and as pathetic as that sounds it does mean things can still get much worse and not all hope is lost. People want their gibs and their freedom. It's not one or either yet. At least not on a grand enough scale.

I don't think you need to worry about out-right socialism becoming the political zeitgeist in America. What you should worry about is this insidious, scientific kind of statism they teach in universities and schools, where problems are solved with government programs and the right taxes levied on the right kinds of activities. This is the kind of cancer that will eat America from the inside. Out-right socialists are a vocal minority of educated young people (a larger minority than libertarians, though) and I don't believe this reflects the real feelings of most millenials. Socialism, rightly so, still has this mental association with breadlines and shortages and most Americans, no matter their feelings, will never be able to accept name-brand socialism.
Thankfully, however, America has had and continues to have a strong libertarian spirit, if you really want to frustrate the efforts of crypto-socialists and statists you need to spread your belief with as many people as possible, even if they don't become full-on ancaps, putting the ideas of libertarianism out there in a clear and understandable way without being a fucking sperg will, I believe, keep America from becoming the next Venezuela, and hopefully even turn back the tide.

Who gives a shit about New York? I personally give a shit insofar as I look forward to New York becoming a giant shithole to the tune of California, the only thing I DO worry about though is when these people inevitably end up moving elsewhere and voting for the same economically unsound policies that turned New York to shit to begin with. All around the country there is a rise from the right, predominantly in paleo-conservativism (Libertarianism too), the fact that New York has some latina socialist as some congress representative shouldn't worry or discourage you too much.
The possibility that New York will become a shithole reliant on US tax dollars to the extent of California hints at a good majority of New York becoming much like Detroit or it hints at a secession from the nation in the near future (this seems like a fairly radical conclusion but political affairs are really only going to get worse as time goes on). But that's IF she's even a real socialist, as some people in this thread have pointed out, she might just be another scam artist scamming millennials out of their avacado money much like Bernie Sanders.

Where did you get that? It's not a compromise, its a fucking result of more economic freedoms, if you got a country with even more of them, its high growth and development would result in a lot better country than scandinavian fucking states. Tryly, leftists always read only what they want to, but still fail even at that.

You have to define that "works". Works for who? Scandinavia is in decline and in debt. You'd think that it's obvious enough that posters on something called /liberty/ would not be posting here if they were perfectly satisfied with mediocrity. If everything that isn't a third world shithole passes as "working", then you've got a wide range of relatively the same system to not choose from all over the world. The only compromise cappies are willing to have is to not initiate aggression after you leave us the fuck alone and take nothing. No gibs. Go ahead and have your multiple experiments of "not real Socialism in the end" and we'll be perfectly fine in our own corner.

It's a better model than say China or Russia where vast state-backed corporate monopolies under the control of a quasi-aristocracy of Party members and mafiosos milk the country and its people for their own benefit. The problem is welfare states can easily degenerate into the aforementioned state corporatocracy (Brazil, Spain…). This degeneration seems unavoidable in full-blown socialist nations (USSR, China, Cuba, Venezuela) and takes only about 3 generations.

To be fair, quality-wise the US heathcare system is really good, far better than the public heathcare systems of other countries. Whats wrong with it is that its really expensive due to mountains of regulations, in my country the private healthcare system delivers nearly US quality of care but at <1/4th the price because there is only a dozen or so pages of legislation governing healthcare providers and maybe a dozen or so for health insurance providers.

>better education rates
All education is shit. The only thing that school teaches you is also the only thing by which their performance is evaluated, and that is how to pass the exams at the end of the year. School is a place where children and teenagers have hammered into them knowledge with no regard for understanding, indoctrinated on what to think but not how to think, and taught how to be successful by people who aren't.
>higher reported happiness and health
Entirely subjective, have you considered that maybe they have lower life expectations in terms of success/wealth/acheivements/etc which is why most people feel happier given similar outcomes?
>less income inequality
One thing that leftists like yourself fail to understand is that inequality isn't necessarily a bad thing. While a leftist may see someone like Bill Gates and feel nothing but envy and injustice that someone can be worth so much while they aren't and immediately turn to thoughts of mass theft and murder "wealth redistribution", someone like myself would instead feel inspiration and hope because I have proof that success is possible and that my actions directly effect it.
I would rather there be a ladder of success and for some people to be at the top of it than for there to be no ladder and everyone stuck at the bottom.
