/liberty/, it is getting harder and harder for me to socially be a libertarian. And of all the things that puts me on the precipice, to think it would be a John Oliver video.

I just can not believe that you can look at a country that is now scoring in economic freedom at around Cuban levels, and say that socialism isn't the problem, and that the socialism in Venezuela "Just wasn't implemented properly." That level of denial is a level that proves to me that discourse is not tenable with a socialist.

Someone start up the rotors and reincarnate Pinochet. This shit has me livid. Discourse and free speech has failed.

You don't have to bother with them. If they're using force against you, you respond with the same, unless you've got a better solution, in this case not discourse. What would make you unlibertarian is starting aggression yourself. Chill out, stop taking the bait and focus on improving your life, instead of getting angry at someone who's selfdestructing and doing far more harm to themselves than you. There will always be people that believe in something and can be convinced otherwise and those that want to believe. Learn to filter life's bullshit.

That's true. Von Mises personally paid the republic ten billion dollars so they'd pretend to be communist, just to discredit left-anarchists.

Bravo, OP. Truly an intellectual power house.

Another cool smokescreen to disguise a planned economy.

Private is a meaningless descriptor when nearly every industry is price-controlled and production of consumer goods has to be inline with a pre-approved list of goods the government will allow, down to what color clothes can be produced. Private business only exists in Venezuela because of legal formalism, they're essentially just subordinate offices of the government. In addition, GDP doesn't capture real spending of the government. The government only affects GDP if it personally spends it and it's counted at the price of whatever is purchased, but if it merely distributes gifts to its citizens it doesn't affect GDP at all even though clearly this is clearly different from genuine private spending.

>private property exists therefore its not socialist.

Maybe in commie lala land it isn't. But it still is a command economy, where the key means of production (oil, agriculture, toiletries) are being controlled by the democratically government either directly or though regulations so intense it may as well be ran by the government.

>It has a capitalist black market, there for it is a capitalist system.

Black Markets do not count, they will exist everywhere in every system regardless I guess if you go full Ancap.
