What do you think about Lenin's analysis of crony capitalism (imperialism)?

>Economically, the main thing in this process is the displacement of capitalist free competition by capitalist monopoly. Free competition is the basic feature of capitalism, and of commodity production generally; monopoly is the exact opposite of free competition, but we have seen the latter being transformed into monopoly before our eyes, creating large-scale industry and forcing out small industry, replacing large-scale by still larger-scale industry, and carrying concentration of production and capital to the point where out of it has grown and is growing monopoly: cartels, syndicates and trusts, and merging with them, the capital of a dozen or so banks, which manipulate thousands of millions. At the same time the monopolies, which have grown out of free competition, do not eliminate the latter, but exist above it and alongside it, and thereby give rise to a number of very acute, intense antagonisms, frictions and conflicts. Monopoly is the transition from capitalism to a higher system.

>crony capitalism (imperialism)?

Imperialism is not capitalism. Crony capitalism is a bullshit term for socialism, which only socialists use to hide their guilt. I could spend a fucking hour deconstructing the absolute garbage you put into three words.

well, crony capitalism is what happens when you do socialism.

I mean, they use the excuse of "we're doing it for the people" to find a gazillion ways to give money to the cronies, but leftists will be forever able to argue that it's not socialism because of some interchangeable reason (that's the good of having a political doctrine based on feelings and not logic).

What?

Gotta say, this thread really exceeded my expectations.

Crony capitalism isn't the displacement of free-market competition by monopolies. It's a result of the state creating an un-free market due to the corruptive interplay between the state and wealthy elite/special interest groups.

We don't agree on monopoly. The only kind of monopoly recognized as a clear negative is State enforced monopoly. Refer to "Perfect Competition" if you don't know what I'm talking about.

There is no transition to a higher system. Trying to fit it in some sort of linear progression doesn't work. Coercion does not come out of peaceful interaction and order. It has always existed alongside it.

What we do agree on is that large cronies tend to manipulate the Social and Military policy of the State. The Cronies supply the resources and the politicians dupe the public into complying. This is what the above poster referring to cronyism as Socialism means. Said people with anti-free market views are often the dupes supporting their own demise- protectionism and regulations along with minimum wage laws and monopolistic monetary expansion.

For once the thread wasn't an utter shitpost, but I can't guarantee the replies will be serious either. It's not easy to end the cycle of shitposting. We've had so many terrible gotcha threads that the default response is a REEEEEEEEE.

Inosofar as monopolies have ever existed in the US, they have been highly localized (nobody else wants to compete for the limited market), due to government force, or due to excellence in the field (i.e. producing better stuff cheaper than competitors).

Also worth noting that the "robber barons" past and present are major drivers for charitable giving (including charitable trusts surviving to this day from the "gilded age"), so even if you think they were bad then (mostly propaganda btw) you have to factor in the good that they have done with charity.
