why does singapore get praised by some libertarians when it is a surveillance society with little to no free speech or free market and where you would be put to death for smoking weed?

>with little to no

>free market

wat

it literally a trade hub

because it is rich and it is easy to do business there

 No.82922

Because a good deal of libertarians are just mediocre businessmen who want the freedom to use lead paint on their baby food cans.

Suspicious site. How about you check out Singapore's EFI if you do not believe us.

Only an idiot will use an expensive metal instead of an inexpensive polymer in paint, Mr. Strawman

>why does singapore get praised by some libertarians

I am pretty sure the keyword here is some, I certainly don't consider it one step removed from "le AnCap utopia" but it doesn't rank as the second or so in the world economic freedom index for nothing.

>>82883

>it literally a trade hub

While trade does contribute significantly to its wealth its also a pretty big tech hub, quite a few large tech companies were founded there and many non Singapore tech companies have offices there.

So does that make it "communist" if that statement is true?

South Korea also has State assisted Capitalism.

 No.87922

#2 in the economic freedom index: https://www.heritage.org/index/ranking, with the economic output that libertarians would expect from such a ranking.

Making the case for economic freedom in one country isn't bad (Hong Kong would also work here in terms of massive economic growth with minimal natural resources), the case for personal rights can be made in other ways as needed.

Mainly see >>87922

Basically we don't consider it a free economy, but compared to the USA it's a much freer economy. As I said in the other thread, when most countries are a -50 on the index, it's not that hard to praise a -20. You should keep in mind we don't consider it "free" by any stretch, just economically freer than most countries.

 No.87928

You don't need political freedom when you have economic freedom.

Compared to the U.S., which is a surveillance society and you get made into a career criminal for smoking weed? Compared to the U.K., which is a surveillance society and you go to jail for making a Nazi pug joke? Compared to…etc..

At least you can be rich in Singapore.
